“Weapon Containment Device: No AI Detected”
I think the AI Chip is a hoax device for Chief to capture Cortana with. She’s the weapon that needs to be contained.
This could be a clever way to do it, a way to trick Cortana.
I’m guessing after Chief manages to retrieve her, this AI chip renders her unable to escape or access his suit.
There’s even a line of code on his suit boot-up screen that reads “Preparing AI Intrusion Countermeasures” (3:31 in the trailer)
Its been postulated. And at the end of the trailer he does approach it and pulls the device out.

The ending of the trailer can be easy to misinterpret, it looks like Cortana reuniting with Chief problem-free.
I’m under the impression that many don’t correlate Cortana being the weapon in need of containment.
I think a lot of people may have missed the boot-up screen info as well that says “Preparing AI Intrusion Countermeasures”

Thats what Im saying. Chief is like “oh yeah, we’re cool, come on back to me”
And then Cortana (theoretically) will just go into the chip and be caught and Created problem OVER.
It wont be that simple, of course. Thats too obvious. But thats basically what the UNSCs plan is. And its a good one, honestly.
Also the counterintrusion measures may just be a standard implement considering who they’re fighting, not JUST against Cortana. See; Freds armor being hijacked on Gao by Interpid Eye.

“Chief attacks with FEELS”
“It is very effective!”
. . . .
“Chief uses AI CHIP”
“Gotcha! CORTANA is caught!”

Exactly.
…Huh. It really is kinda like Pokemon isnt it.
This is a neat theory and certainly sounds plausible.
The only thing that gives me a little pause though, is the fact that the chip John puts in his helmet in last year’s 2018 trailer is glowing and appears to be active. Plus, since they keep talking about Infinite being a “spiritual reboot”, it seems to me like part of the classic formula is to have an AI companion in your head, so I assumed that’s what that action meant in the 2018 trailer. Since it’s been confirmed both chips have a serial number precisely one number higher than the original Cortana’s number I had just been fully assuming that a new “good” Cortana 2.0 model would be our companion in Infinite. Part of 343’s attempt to redeem her character after H5.
But, it’s also possible it was just an artistic choice to make the 2018 chip glowing.
Maybe they form a tentative alliance to fight a greater threat and the AI intrusion countermeasures are so that Cortana can’t pull any tricks.
Does anyone else think that there is still a good Cortana out there, since she split off into multiple fragments at the end of Halo 4. The one we’re dealing with in Halo 5 and infinite would just be the crazy version that was attached to the Didact which would explain why Cortana said the same thing in Halo 5 that the Didact did in Halo 4. So somewhere there still could be a good version of Cortana that could serve as something similar to Offensive Bias.
Yes. That is a theory. One of a few floating around. But I don’t think it’s meant to just trap her, but also cure her. This Cortana is a conglomerate of many rampant fragments. While there’s no guaranteed way to cure rampancy, Cortana herself suggested Dr. Halsey could potentially cure her if they got her in Halo 4.
Some have suggested that this chip has been modified to contain and then cure Cortana of her rampancy. The smoking gun for this theory is during the boot up sequence of John’s armor, You can read “SPDR” it’s a reference to ilovebees way back in the day. SPDR is a program used to fix A.I’s who can’t fix themselves. So if he manages to contain Cortana on that special chip, he could then plug it into his armor and the SPDR program could potentially cure Cortana while the suits A.I counted intrusion measures hold her at bay.

Yeah, I believe the glow was an artistic choice myself.
In regards to the serial number being different/one digit higher, I believe her original AI Chip was lost/destroyed after Halo 4.
So this chip is just a modified replacement. No new AI.
I just can’t see Chief being cool with a replacement after what Cortana said in Halo 4 about “it won’t be me. You know that right?” She has so much knowledge though. I could see Halsey attempt to repair her somehow.

Wow! Nice catch. I didn’t even realize SPDR was a reference to ilovebees! That theory seems very plausible.
