As the title implies, how would you feel if in Halo Infinite in both story gameplay and multiplayer/warzone 2.0 if the AI were capable of assassinating you?
An Elite clutching you at the neck and lifting you up, one handed as it drives its energy sword through you to then toss you aside.
Or a Brute taking your legs out and then bringing its hammer down straight on your torso.
Even better a grunt knee checking you, then double fist punching you in the chest, to lastly repeatedly happy jump on your head screaming ‘I am a demon stomper’

Eh, honestly I would only be fine with it if it you could only be assassinated if you would have died to the melee attack anyways. Even then, stuff like that can often feel cheap even if the hitboxes and damage weren’t any different from normal attacks, getting locked into a kill animation by the AI when you feel like you dodged them(even if you wouldn’t have otherwise) can be frustrating.
I’m not completely against the concept, but its something that needs to be done with care.

You could have some specific weapon assassinations with certain brute weapons 2

I wholeheartedly agree with you here, if you had next to no health, were in a melee distance from an Elite, I’d probably prefer it being a high ranking one at that and if anything exclusive to high ranking enemies and when you aren’t in a large group. Would also give your allies a chance to save you mid animation. This function would need extreme amounts of care to be conducted correctly.
So in Reach mainly the DLC that came with Halo anniversary, I tried that Firefight mode with the ODSTs in them and found that there were no assassination animations for Elites on Marines (sad face). I sort of understand, USNC was always the ally not the enemy.
Even further back you could find some brute concept animations, one in particular where a brute pulls off the arms of a marine as an execution. For some forerunner blessed reason, it was considered too violent for a video game with an ESRB rating of M(?).
Speaking of which I think Reach did have assassination animations the Elites would do on you but the difference is they didn’t have to be behind you in order to just kill you. Also the marines and other Spartan IIIs had assassination elements too and would use them on the sleeping grunts after you assassinate one of them.
So for assassinations well here are some.
Spartan on Spartan (for multiplayer) - Spartan on Elite (of course) - Elite on Elite (bring them back in MP) - Spartan on Covenant minor (Grunt, Jackal, Drone, the little guys). - UNSC Minor on Covenant Minor (Let the ODST and Marines have a little fun) - Spartan on UNSC Minor (An insurrectionist storyline might be interesting) - Elite on UNSC Minor (No ODST will be safe) - Spartan on Brute (can’t forget about them) - Brute on Spartan (now wouldn’t that be a twist) - Brute on UNSC Minor (and by twists I meant playing as a Brute) - Elite on Brute (bring back that famous feud) - Brute on Elite (hows that for civil war) - Brute on Covenant Minor (simply brutal) - Spartan on Knight (if you could catch one) - Elite on Knight (when they are not too busy fighting you) - Brute on Knight (unbound range) - Knight on Everyone (because it doesn’t really need an animation for every different opponent, just stabs you in the back, then a snap of a finger and you don’t feel so well)Wow that is just 17 different assassination animation categories. Some of those will have more than one and even whole subcategories.

Agreed, it could become frustrating if not done correctly. I also should have stated I would prefer it to be for the high ranking leader AI, not their minions. I think concentrated fire from your squad could be one way to break the animation, that way you encourage both team gameplay and raise the stakes and reward I’d you manage to take a boss out solo on foot.

I have mentioned weapon assassinations before. I would reserve it for weapons that have a bayonet or blade attachment. An idea of one would be to if you had a DMR with a bayonet to run your opponent through WW1 style, lift them up off their feet slightly and fire twice so that they are blown off the gun.

Brute shot with that blade coming out of the back and the spikers also have blades

Not sure how I feel about being assasinated by AI. Too many chances for BS kills for AI or glitches. However, I am fond of the character interactions.
What if they enemy AI stomped on your corpse? Or kicked you? Threw you? Dragged you around? Maybe even used your body to show their strength
