Recently I’ve been reading up on some of the Halo lore on Halopedia, where I read an interesting bit on AI. During the Human-Covenant war, only the UNSC has actively used both smart and dumb AI to augment their systems. The Covenant mostly used dumb AI if I understood correctly, and in some way managed to copy UNSC AI and twist them for use within their own systems. Thing was, that the Covenant had religious objections against the use of proper smart AI, and as such never properly capitalised on them.
The Banished obviously do not have religious issues with the possible use of smart AI. Indeed, with them being as pragmatic as they are, I don’t think they would shy away from using smart AI if it were to enhance their war machine. Now I’m wondering: how much did the Banished invest in AI?
We’ve also got the Created we have to deal with. If the Banished did actually have AI, did they defect to the Created too? Are some of their AI still loyal to the Banished? What implications could this have for the story as a whole? I think it could make for an interesting story element if we were to interact with a Banished AI at some point, if implemented properly of course.
