Okay so don’t quote me on this because this is something I am trying to remember off the top of my head, I believe there was 9 missions that you played as Agent Locke and 3 Missions as the Master Chief, this I found extremely disappointing and it ruined the game for me. I don’t know what 343 were thinking honestly, I mean I BOUGHT! Halo for the Master Chief not Agent Locke and I am sure this is the same for many Halo fans. Why on Earth would we have 9 missions as Locke and 3 as Master Chief? It’s almost like 343 are trying to replace him. Yeah I know Bungie did something similar in Halo 2 but the difference was Arbiter was cool unlike Locke and was a decent character to play as because it really gave you the feel of what it’s like to be part of the covenant. I love the Arbiter and Master Chief equally, Locke is just… A complete amature and when Master Chief and him fought, I wanted Master Chief to completely demolish him. But NO! They had to make it as if they were ‘even’. Master Chief has saved humanity countless times and has experience in fighting and is a REAL Spartan, he should have smashed Locke hands down. Anyways 343 Halo 6 better not have Agent Locke as a playable character, he isn’t cool he just ruined the game for me and for many other original Halo fans that are all for the Master Chief, if you absolutely HAD to have Locke as a secondary character then you should have at least given the Chief a lot more missions then that crappy Agent Locke character.
Agent Locke has had more character in one game than Master Chief had in three. Now you care about having a mostly-silent protagonist, but only because he isn’t Master Chief or a completely silent protagonist.
Spartan Locke wishes he was Sergeant Johnson
I wish people would stop posting this crappy satire.
Or at least make it even 6 and 6 I feel like they introduced/ forced him in way to hard. We grew up with chief we are chief. The way they made this game feels like it should have been a spin off like ODST, not a legitimate part of the series which, if they had actually wanted us to like him or I guess he is likeable don’t get me wrong but I think if they would’ve made a side game like “Halo: Lockescapades” we would’ve excepted him more. Hell I felt a closer attachment to Buck than Locke just because of ODST and I’m sure I’m not the only one
Crappy writing ruined Halo 5’s Campaign. Not Locke. ( I still don’t like him)
I didn’t like Locke at first but by the end of the game I felt he was the best part of the campaign. His determination to save the Chief despite all odds was so admirable.
At at first you think he’s just an empty “duty first” soldier character but by the end of game you can tell he puts duty first because of his passion for humanity and saving lives. He’s basically as noble as the chief but but choice rather than indoctrination.

But that confident no unnecessary blabbing straight to the point yet mysterious demeanor is what makes chief’s character so awesome he’s intimidating and formidable yet you respect him and his actions. Locke had in my opinion kind of a silly movie and then gets 80% of the spotlight in a game that’s always been based around chief. I like Locke I just don’t care for how they crammed so much of him into his first game appearance
I completely disagree. I enjoyed the campaign and it opens up the world of halo to allow for spinoffs with different characters and different stories. Halo doesn’t always have to be about MC.
There are many problems with the halo 5 campaign. Locke isn’t one of them.
343 ruined Halo 5 not Locke, Locke has more character than MC ever did in his first 3 games combined. Yes he is a boring character but so was MC and it took him 4 games to get a personality.

But they’re basically the same character: generic no-nonsense badass FPS Protagonist. I personally dislike both characters: they have next to no personality, charisma, and are overalll static characters.
I would have a LOT less problems with Locke, if he like Noble 6 in Reach, could wear player chosen armor during game play & cutscenes.

Wtf, where? He literally just has ‘blank face’ the whole game. Hit tone barely shifts and he never seems to care what he is doing, he just does the job like a good boy.
I really wanted to like Locke but he came off as a generic good guy hero. Just a flicker of emotion would have sold it for me but he’s just boring.
That said, I think all of the characters could have shown a little more emotion, except maybe Buck, he kept me grinning.
I envisioned the moment where Fred questions John, but instead of John’s dismissive reply, he actually puts his hand on Fred’s shoulder and said something like “It’s Cortana… I need to do do this…” and Fred would say something like “It’s ok John, we’re with you 'till the end.” then Linda and Kelly both nod or something (didn’t intend for that to sound sexist but I’m no writer).
The characters felt pretty flat this time, but I thought Cortana was handled pretty well (even though I preferred the idea of her remaining dead as it has more interesting implications for John).
I dunno, I blame Brian Reed, I wish Chris Shlerf hadn’t left.
I agree, it felt like Agent Locke was the protagonist at times. I hated it. And the story wasn’t really rushed, but in my opinion it was a cat and mouse chase.

I wish the chief would talk less, he was so silent in the first three games, but as soon as he wakes up in the fourth, he’s all,“why did you wake me, how long was I out, the covenant are maniacs compared to what we fought before”. He spoke five times as much in the first level of the game than the first level of the first game. Why would he suddenly want to talk so much?

Exactly, Locke had barely any emotion whatsoever, Vale and Tanaka are kind of meh, like they were just trying to add more characters and didn’t worry about personality. However, I disagree with you on the master chief part of your rant. If he was anything like the first three games, he would just stay silent no matter how many questions they ask, like he did to the arbiter, and would just let them follow him wherever he goes, without any explanation. I wouldn’t want him to be as silent as Chell(portal 2), but silent enough.
p.s. Get real. Guys don’t talk about their feelings.
You’re rasist.
some one else doesnt like captain cardboard? great maybe they will kill him off in 6 or maybe he will be relegated to a bit part like palmer ;p

Yeah I guess maybe its because we’ve never truly seen chief’s face? and that’s why we like him I don’t know
