After yesterdays mention

Will there ever be a cheating deterrent in this game or will ranked remain locked to cheaters despite competition being the base of this game.

What would be a cheating deterrent that isn’t already present?

To my knowledge and limited experience with them, cheaters do get banned.

@KONSPIRACY not sure how I “missed the point” when I’m simply trying to expand upon OP’s point. At worst, this response can be interpreted as “bait” lol

It would be nice if they had a more accessible reporting system. The UI in this game leaves much to be desired.

Is that a deterrent? No. But I think it would be a way to show players that they are trying to do something.

Agreed that the current method of reporting suspected cheaters (or reporting problematic players in general) needs to be revamped.

But as you pointed out, it’s just makes the first step to enforcing deterrent a bit easier. I’m curious what other deterrent OP thinks can actually be enforced.

Cheating will never officially go away. It’s something you generally need to keep keep updating if you want to keep up with it. The problem though is now you’re dedicating people to specifically to deter cheaters instead of working on the game.

They could make it easier to report people though who are obviously not playing well at least. Maybe even other features like a means of blocking people you don’t want to play with again.

Looks like that’s on the agenda:

“We know that cheating has been a hot issue for players since launch and we’re exploring a few ways to make meaningful impact in both the short- and long-term here. Our efforts are concentrated on two main areas where we have the biggest gaps in our approach; we are working to streamline the process of reporting players for cheating or toxic behavior (which can currently be done on the Halo Support site with a new in-game reporting flow, and we are evaluating several different solutions for improving our ability to keep cheaters out of our game once we’ve detected them.”
