…I have a new concern. So far, most of the revealed news about MCC has been focused on Halo 2, and much of that has been about the new cinematics, new Anniversary maps, and new campaign paintjob, with the porting of the original content getting a distant backseat.
I get the need to show off a bit, but as these are old games, the nostalgia factor should be getting more play than it is, as should the staggering value of this set.
So my question is this. How much priority/budget is Halo 2’s new content getting in development compared to the porting of the old content?
In addition, how much priority/budget is being given to Halo 2 as a whole compared to the other 3 games? I get that this is H2’s big anniversary year, and that H2’s online has a very fervent following, but a lot of people are excited about stuff like Halo 1’s multiplayer and Halo 3’s campaign as well.
Overall, I’m worried about only a few aspects of the collection shining, and the rest being crude, gimped work…
I don’t have figures but I’d say the majority of the budget is going towards Halo 2 Anniversary because it’s going to take the most work; remaking 6 maps from the ground up, new graphics for the campaign, running the old graphics underneath, re-done cutscenes, new cutscenes to tie it to Halo 5. We know that the other campaigns are just being polished to run at 1080p 60fps, they’re not getting any graphical mods apart from that. Same for the MP. Halo 2 will be their priority and it’s natural given the amount of work needed compared to the others.
During the shows 343i have been at, people want to see new best content and that is Halo 2 Anniversary. I think this is why we’re seeing so much more about it than any of the others. You just need to look at the forums to see that Halo 2 is what the majority are talking about, so 343i are just giving them what they want. Doesn’t mean the others are not being given the same love or that 343i are just doing a quick job with them, just means 343i are not showing them. We’re still over 3 months away from release, that’s plenty of time to hype up the nostalgia (not that it needs it though) and the value which Frankie was doing a good job of that at E3.
So ultimately I don’t share your concerns. I’m confident it’s all going to be amazing come November 14th (UK release date)
Honestly, if this were simply a retcon of Halo 2 multiplayer and went on sale for $60, I’d still buy it. As much as I am going to enjoy the other parts of the collection, it’s that part that stands out the most to me. Halo 2 Campaign was always my least favorite, with long levels, bad checkpoints, and frustrating enemies. It was like CoD WaW on Veteran. Extremely difficult (on Legendary, that is) to the point where it wasn’t fun and the story took a back seat. Even on Normal or Heroic, some of those levels get so long and drawn out you have to stop and think why either MC or Arby is doing exactly what he’s doing.
And about the other parts of the collection…
I feel like H2A is going to look sweet, but I’m going to get more out of Halo 2 Classic.
I just played Halo 4 and Halo 1 Anniversary campaign, so those are going to get last looks from me. The only reason I’m going to hit up the Halo 2 Campaign is because of how long it’s been since I’ve played it, and to see the extra content it added/how beautiful it looks. In the order of importance…
Of course they’re showing off mostly H2A; it’s the only new content coming to the MCC (except for the Halo 5 beta). Why would they focus on material and content that is years and years old? If you want to see Halo 1, 2, 3, or 4 gameplay, you can look up old clips on YouTube and see nothing different except a slightly less-pretty version of what you’ll find in the MCC.

i don’t think it is up to you, to decide what is worth being excited for & what is not.
besides that, i’m also looking forward to the H3 MP since almost every Playlist
right now is “DLC-only” & thus unplayable for me.

I’ve been playing Halo since the first one came out in 2001.
Halo 3 is by far my favorite when it comes to multiplayer. Maybe Halo 3 isn’t your favorite but it is mine so to say it isn’t the best is simply an opinion. Everything from the maps, gameplay, and sandbox clicks with me in Halo 3.
I play Halo 3 every weekend on my 360 but make no mistake getting to play halo 3 in MC Collection will be a whole new experience to make my favorite game even more awesome. The 60fps, 1080p, and dedicated servers will make it a dream come true. Halo 3 right now is half alive and bullet ridden with cheaters, exploiters, and half alive playlists. MC Collection will make it whole again.
Sure Halo 1 and 2 will be fun and cool to play in MC Collection but the game I will get serious with to play real well in is Halo 3 forever and always.
There’s nothing to talk about. The nostalgia factor only takes effect when you actually play the game, and until that time, 343i is better off discussing things that are actually new, rather than showing off footage from games that you could just youtube some gameplay of at any time. We already know how Halo’s 1, 3 and 4 play and look. There isn’t much to talk about there, until you actually have the game in hand playing it. MCC is an experience that needs to be experienced. They can’t just talk about it and have any kind of effect.
Though perhaps they can show off some online Halo CE multiplayer, that could be cool.

I still want to see what Halo 3 looks like in 1080p. In the panel Frankie talked about how Halo 3 looked so much better. Some screenshots would have been epic.
Does one have to write “IMO” after every single non-factual post, or can we just assume that it’s their opinion from now on?
Anyway, I feel that most people are most excited for Halo 3 because they never played Halo 1 and 2. To me, that is the exact reason to be excited for Halo 1 and 2, especially given that most consider those two to be superior Halos.
