After renting Halo 5, my opinion of it has changed

Most of this is just your opinion, not necessarily problems. Although not being able to melee mid jump drives me nuts.

I think maybe he means clambering. You are dead in the water when you do that and someone is shooting you or whatever.

The ground pound is pretty stupid

I would rather that a new Halo game would be made that plays similarly to the original Halo games, while also having new interesting things to do in the game. That is what Halo 2 did after Halo CE, and that is also what Halo 3 did after Halo 2. And no, Halo is not the most unique game on the market. It has fallen into the well of genericness.

> Yeah, because there isn’t the demand for it man. Halo 5 multiplayer > Halo 2 imo and most others. You are in the minority, but you STILL have MCC so be grateful. no kindly stop beating a dead horse.

How? How is Halo 5 better than Halo 2? I wasn’t around for Halo 2, but I’ve played the MCC, and its awesome. Halo 5 is full of random crap that ruins the competitive nature of the game, the aiming and deadzone issues are very present ( contrary to what all the 343i defenders will say), and it just isn’t fun to play. And you know what? I’m not grateful for the MCC, that game is still screwed up, even after a year of updates. A new Halo game, with new weapons, gamemodes, maps and a new campaign, all made in the same game style as Halo 2 and Halo 3, that would be a fun and unique game in comparison to the garbage being released yearly by EA and Activision. A sequel builds upon its predecessor, not outright changing the game.

There are so many more reasons as to how Sprint ruins the flow of Halo. What makes Sprint good for Halo, it’s not a twitch shooter, you say we have no arguments for why Sprint is bad, what are yours for why it’s good? All I ever here is I’m a spartan I should be able to sprint or it feels faster. That feels faster reason is an illusion because the maps are so big. You can walk from one base to another in previous Halos just as fast as you can Sprint to them in Halo 4 and 5.

The average walking times across halos 1-4 are approximately the same for maps of similar sizes. Sprinting in h4 is an increase in speed.

Average sizes of maps increased in h4, but only because you lose the really small maps like beaver creek and lockout.

Things that sprint effects.
1.Map design
Maps have to be larger and more stretched out. If they don’t do this, the game play becomes too chaotic. This creates “No Man Zones” where you have to sprint across routes, or die because you’re not moving fast enough. See the map, Truth.
2. Weapon Time to Kill
Players are moving faster, so the TtK has to be faster to compensate, otherwise players would get away to quickly. Faster ttk=lower skill gap. Currently, Halo 5 has the fastest TtK average the series has ever seen. Grenades also have to become more effective to compensate.
3. Radar range
Halo 4 provided large radar range to keep players from approaching each other too fast due to sprint. This balancing act was complained about for giving players too much information. So Halo 5’s radar was reduced, and now players can suddenly approach each other without warning. Lending itself too often toward a “who shoots first, wins” meta.
4. Complete separation of gunplay and movement.
Previous Halo’s allowed players to both move at full speed in all directions and keep their gun up at all times. Halo 4 and 5, and to a lesser extent, Reach, remove this distinction. You either move slowly with your gun up, or you move at full speed, unable to defend yourself.
6. Devalues power positions.
Regardless of nerfs, running away still happens. This only promotes a lack of punishment for poor positioning. Players running away lends itself to more “cat and mouse” gameplay, and less player engagement, slowing the game. Out of all the problems sprint causes, this is the only one that 343 even remotely addresses.

Unlike you sprint defenders, we anti sprint “purists” actually know what we are talking about. It’s not the sprinting mechanic by itself being a problem. It’s the domino effect of every part of Halo’s core design being changed, just to make it work.
So yeah, of course it doesn’t ruin the flow of Halo 5, the game was practicality built around the mechanic. It just ruins Halo’s game play in general.

Interesting thread. Glad you tried Willko. I wish I had rented it. I downloaded it and now I hardly even play it. First time in 14 years I’m not hooked on the new Halo.

I’m sorry, but saying the spartan charge and ground pound abilities are useless is just a downright lie. Do you know how many kills I’ve gotten with them, or how many times I’ve been killed by them? It’s your loss if you don’t want to use them.

After that, H2A was picked, and while I was getting shot in the back from being in the open, I tried to Sprint away and I was like “oh, right… I can’t”. It felt like a problem, but I know it’s not. It’s a problem when you CAN Sprint away. You have to really look at the bigger picture. Once you forget about the feeling and want to Sprint for your personal benefits at the time, you realize how much more complex and fun the game really is.
> > > > Halo 2, when you stop thinking about stupid “modernization” is simply more fun and competitive. It never gets old. There are no cheap -Yoink- tactics. It’s the way Halo needs to be.

> > >

Ofc your instinct is to run and that is what you did, sprint simply wasn’t in the Game. Running or jogging away has always been in halo our any game. Also sprinting doesn’t recharge shields so you’d probably would’ve gotten picked off anyway.

I just know they would.

> So sprint is the deciding factor rather you’re gonna be playing 2 years from now? Lol just stop. I have looked at it like that and I don’t feel the same, I prefer sprint nuff said. I’ve never blamed sprint for missing kills, getting killed or anything like that. If anything sprint adds more skill to the game.
>
> The Op says charge and slide are useless proves how sprint just added more skill. Slide I thought was useless in the beta how been literally a game changer. It’s been the difference between getting AC on that plaza map before the enemy. Difference between getting my head took off or scoring a kill. I’ve already explained how charge has been a difference maker. Both are byproducts of sprint.
>
> Remove sprint from halo 5 and change things to accommodate no sprint, got the image? Now add h5 version of sprint to h3 and accommodate things. Both would still be hella fun but halo 5 would play worse without sprint while 3 wouldn’t play any worse or better with it imo.

Yes; Sprint is that big of a deal.
I’m not alone in this mindset.
It makes the game unplayable at more than a casual level.
So much of the strategy and mind games, which is what I find most appealing about old Halo, is taken away by Sprint.

So tell me how sprint changes Halo into something other than an Arena Shooter?

I fired up halo 2 and 3 on MCC and the gameplay was absolutely awful. Amazing for when it was created but gaming has far evolved since then.

I loved that Halo has evolved a lot but Halo 2 and 3 were amazing dude. And every one keeps getting better

Sprint is a singular directional boost that removes your ability to do the rooty-tooty-point-n-shooty. It slows down the pace by nature that it is only forward momentum which can easily be modified through movement settings. Worried people would find it hard to control? Well, the game is balanced out with the weapons so I see no cause for complaints to balancing out movement by either changing movement speed with no sprint or to not have sprint at all.

Ok with thrusters but no sprint. That’s a new one.

Batman does get a lot of flack. But no one can tell him he’s wrong. He’s not the only person that has a decent argument against sprint, which make me happy that the community isn’t entirely devoid of intelligence. It’s to late to save H5, sprint has already done it’s damage, but not to late for future Halo’s.

TLDR= liked it enough I will buy a copy eventually

Halo isn’t an Arena shooter. It never has been, and never will be. It has Arena elements, sure, but it also has squad-based elements. It’s a freak hybrid shooter that sits on a very delicate balance of those two experiences. All sprint adds to Halo is longer TTK’s and gigantic maps. There is no depth that it adds. You freakin’ sprint when you’re not in combat, and you don’t sprint when you are. It’s black and white. Why? Because you can’t shoot when you’re sprinting. It separates movement from combat, and that’s why it screws with Halo’s core gameplay. In older Halos, you could traverse the map effectively and shoot in unison, in all 4 directions. That added depth, not sprint. You move in one direction: forward, your options become limited, and your strafe becomes quicksand. All those examples you gave, guess what? Normal base speed accomplishes all of that without limiting the player in terms of combat. Imagine that?

Thrusters aren’t going to propel you great distances across the map. They don’t completely wreck the gameplay. I’d prefer to see another Halo game without thrusters, but if something has to stay, then that’s what I’d go with.
