So, I’m sure I’m not the only one who adored Halo: Reach’s customization pallet (I can’t be the only one who misses having the flaming heads lol). I loved having so many different choices; something I wished they would have kept in later games like 4 and 5. While we still do have an abundance of selections in 4 and even more so in 5, it just isn’t the same. Don’t get me wrong, I love being able to customize my armor to look the way I want, but I’d like it even more if I could almost feel like my Spartan was, well, mine.
What I’m trying to say is; I’d like more personal customizations if it’s at all possible. Throughout the lore of Halo, we’ve seen so many different Spartans that just had an innate look that made us instantly recognize who they were. In the games, unless they’re a streamer, we’re all just a bunch of faceless virtual soldiers running to our deaths in a video game.
If anyone at 343i reads this, I would like for you to understand that making something feel like its yours is great in a game. I am always proud when I look at my Spartan in every Halo game. But if our Spartans are supposed to feel special, they kinda fall short in that category. They’re unrecognized without an actual call sign or something to recognize from. Daisy had her little teddy bear keychain, some Spartans had armor unavailable to anyone else, Jun had that mesh of camouflage on him. Many Spartans, especially the second generation of ORION, had some little quirk they added to their armor. Something that gave it more personality.
Yeah I hope we get deeper customization, beyond just armour pieces too. I’m sure they’ve heard us asking for it, it’s on them now to care or not.
Yeah id love for more customization options to return, essentially just make it like reach, maybe add a few new things. But Reach/H3 nailed it for the most part.
I would chose Reach’s Customization over H5, in a heartbeat. Even with the relatively “smaller” pool of armor, Reach’s customization still feels more “personal” than 5 ever could.
If Infinite could take the basic Reach concept of a universal base armor for all Spartans (like Mark V, in Reach’s case), but seriously double-down on the idea of individually- and independently- customizable augmentations (helmets, pauldrons, chest plates, bracers, etc., with additional add-on details for each piece), I think we’d be golden.
I know some players prefer the wildly-different base armor for all H5 permutations, but I still maintain that the overall MP aesthetic would be better if all players have a similar “base” to their Spartans, to make them all look more “unified” (similar to how most of the Spartans in the novels are described). That’s also why I would hope they double-down on the Reach-style customization options on top of the base armor, to continue to give players ways to keep their Spartans unique in other ways.
But flaming helmets aren’t COMPETITIVE for ESPORTS.

The flaming helmets, blue flames, inclement weather, oh please let those return.

I want them back sooo bad. The blue flaming helmet is one of my favorite armor options ever.
I’d say the more customization the better, building my own spartan is one of my favorite aspects of the game. if they did something like installation 01 with the the options to add attachments to each piece while also being able to color each piece, i’d be in heaven. Would also love to see all the armor from previous games incorporated if possible.
