Aerial Combat - Improvements

I myself love the aircrafts in halo. I typically do in almost any game as vehicle choice, just something I enjoy. Normally, I steer clear of the banshee, I’m not the best at it, it’s a little unfair and it’s completely lone wolf (not my play style) so I will try to take the Falcon.

Now by comparison, the two crafts look promising but the hornet really does fall short. I’m just brainstorming ideas on ways to perhaps make aerial fighting more useful or equal.

Banshee

  • The armor does need to be stronger slightly, is it fairly weak.

  • (This idea was from a forum members so I’m just quoting it cause I support it & I’m naming off banshee tweaks) Banshee evade rolls should drain boost gauge.

Falcon

  • It is slow, a easy target for most locking weapons and has little evasion measure, could try giving the craft more maneuverability.

  • The pilot of the Falcon should be able to access the main gun mounted in multiplayer, not just campaign. The complete front of the falcon is a weak spot where both turret mounted gunner’s cannot fire straight ahead so you need to bank the Falcon just to give your gunners a shot. If the banshee has dual firing mechanism (bomb & plasma) why can’t the hornet have one source of fire power?

Now these ideas I’m rough on, but I wanted to see what others think.

Idea 1) The Falcon could have access to flares. A deployment of flares right before locked on rockets etc strike. Giving the pilot and passengers a chance to set off the incoming missiles before hitting the actual craft. I’m not big on this but it’s a thought. Trying to replicate an evasive maneuver of the banshee

Idea 2) The pilot, if not granted guns could have access to a ‘marker light’ let’s say. When a target appears in his reticule, say press RT and a marker would appear on the unit he has selected, not large but its visible. However to make it fair, only the two or one passenger of the Hornet could see the marker. I think even this would at least allow better communication of Pilot to gunners considering most randoms do not use mics and even trying to voice (to friends I play with) it’s still not a easy task to properly explain where you’re seeing targets.

Some ideas I’ve recently thought of. Using the Falcon a lot in Big teams it is very lacking and needs some sort of upgrade. It’s almost never touched in either party as well since it’s such a easy target to bring down and unless you can voice chat to both gunners, its almost useless.

Thanks, wanting to hear feedback on this.

  • The Falcon is actually faster than any other useable vehicle.

  • The Turret would be way to OP, a three(even two)-man Falcon can easily beat a Banshee.

  • You don’t need a marker if you just call out the guys.

And people don’t take a Falcon because on almost every map with a Falcon there’s also a Spartan Laser, wich will wreck the Falcon for an easy Triple Kill…
When you’re in control the Falcon is a really good vehicle. I once had 80 wheelman medals with the Falcon, so my gunners had 80 out of 100 kills… You just have to know how to use it.

Did you not read why I suggested the marker? Players usually are in their own party (not listening to others) or players have people set to mute by default (I myself to cause almost everyone in halo with mics drive me insane).

The banshee can easily tool a falcon. Flip and roll a few times to get out of the gunner’s limited line of sight and its a couple bombs to blow it up. That and why would a military have a helicopter with no firing weapon.

and no offense but I find it very hard to believe that your Falcon had 80 out of 100 kills. Thinking that is just stretching the truth by a lot or…the team you were against were all well into the negatives or short many players.

The Banshee does not need better armour. That thing would be invincible if that were the case. Most of the time randomers in big team are unable to concentrate fire and as a result killionaires are a plenty.

I think it will depend on the map. In reach one side gets banshee and rockets and one side gets laser, rockets and focus rifle (spire)

So they kind of nerf each other.

If the weapon drops only allow one rocket/ laser / launcher then vehicle armor should be weak. But on some maps in reach I feel like vehicles are a death trap between the snipers, launchers, dmrs and rockets.

I like the flair idea. Maybe if you hit someone with it it makes there screen bright/ hard to see as well.

It also keeps it from being a 3 turret muppet mower.

I would also like to be able to use the seats for flag/ bomb carriers.
