Alright people, before I get started, it should be noted that I’m an SR141.
Basically, I do horribly in FFA and am not sure of the cause. Although I don’t have a headset, I listen for gunfights and move towards them usually. Unless I’m 5-10 and at the bottom on the leaderboard, I usually try to keep my cool. Also, I’ve been playing with my sensitivity at 3 and acceleration at 2 for the last few months, and my shot as a result has been decent.
What do you all think? My guess is it’s my sensitivity (by all means suggest new setups).
Oh no wait, that’s my advice to myself. I’m a terrible FFA player. I have garbage luck with spawns and I always, always move the wrong way off spawn. I might get lucky and steal a few kills but I’m just…bad.
I don’t play much FFA. Hopefully others have better suggestions.

I play a lot of FFA. Best advice is keep practicing with the pistol. It’s used the most in high level play. As far as sensitivity that comes down to the individual player. Just find what works best for you. Maybe practice some different settings in heroic firefight. Also going by sound is good so good set of speakers or headsets are good to use. I would also recommend an elite controller. Unless you can play with a setting with a regular controller that allows you to never remove your thumbs from the thumb sticks and still do everything. I use an elite and remapped my crouch and grenade select to the lower paddles. It did help improve my game play.

Thank you, but alas, the Elite is something I can’t justify investing in right now.

There is a controller called the fusion which can do the same thing as the elite to a degree. It has buttons on the bottom that you can remap buttons to but the buttons aren’t as comfortable to use as the paddles on the elite. But it is half the cost of an elite.
Don’t play it. Not in Halo 5. The spawns are garbage- even on the maps that supposedly have been tweaked for FFA like Truth- and the various problems with this game; the overly fast-paced, chaotic nature of Halo 5, short motion tracker range, and Spartan Abilities hurt more in Free-For-All than anywhere else.
If you want to have fun in FFA, hop into Rumble Pit in Halo 3, Halo: Reach, or even Halo 4 on the Xbox 360. I would honestly take Infinity Rumble over the garbage we have now. I could counter loadouts and ordnance just by playing smart, but Halo 5… it doesn’t give you any room to breathe or think, and so all you can do is wing it and hope to get lucky. Free-For-All in Halo 5 is a bunch of people running around like headless chickens… or camping in corners waiting to get the drop on the next person who runs by.

I must play a different FFA. H5 FFA is great. Most competitive it’s been since lone wolves in H3. Sure a bad spawn happens, but it has always happened in FFA or any playlist for that matter. I don’t even come across that many campers. High level players know you can’t camp and win in FFA.

You’re salty… The little guy sees all
Kappa
no but seriously. This only happens with the cod bks… if you are matching them then you might as well take the ban. If you play smart and play the control game you can counter this
I suggest finding a sensitivity that works well with a strafe. I play on 8 H and 1.5 V with 4 accel. I have a very complex strafe that I’m still working on but the thing that will keep you alive and let you win your 1v1 gunfights more often is strafing but what ever you do do not make your strafe so complex that you confuse yourself. I recommend in the 3-6 sensitivity range, but if you can play well higher or lower don’t change a thing. I also suggest playing with a pistol all the time as you will start to realise that you will aim better. It is a 5 shot kill, 4 anywhere to take the shields and 1 to the head to finish. That’s all I have for you, once you’ve got the pistol down you can start using any other weapon.
Learn spawns, time power ups, try to control some power weapons. Remember certain weapons like shotguns, spawn 10 seconds after you drop them when they’re empty. Sometimes it’s better to keep it on you to prevent it from spawning for someone else. FFA isn’t nearly as random as some people would like to think.
Hi!
I think one big thing in FFA is knowing when to engage in fights: when you see someone near a corner it might be better not to start shooting at him than following him and start your attack when you have a clear view!
Other than that I recommend watching gameplay of high level FFA-players (for example Vetoed, Proximitty, Kampy … just look them up on YouTube and Twitch) to see how their positioning is, how they move around the map, how they handle certain situations and so on!
Good luck practicing because that’s THE most important thing to get better
P.S.: I’m not really good in FFA, too, so these are just things that came to my mind.
Camp with autos until you’re in the higher levels. There you go. That’s all the advice you need, but I’ll add to not shoot people unless you know that you’ll get the kill or else you’re just helping someone else.

The weapons are like that in every playlist, has nothing to do with just FFA.

> 1) Get a headset. Listening for shots and determining where they are coming from is infinitely easier.
> 2) Gaming monitor if you don’t have one. Magnum accruacy should go up (depending what you are already playing on).
> 3) Don’t focus on the scoreboard. It can lead to bad play. Just focus on the situation at hand.
Thank you for the concise pieces of advice.
Not only that, but thank you everyone. At this point I’ve unlocked just about everything, so I reckon that drastically improving at FFA is the final item left on the agenda to do. Hopefully grueling repetition will provide results.

I hated Lone Wolves in Halo 3. I played Rumble Pit, and made it to the rank of 5-Star General in that playlist.
That’s the whole problem with Halo 5; they made it too competitive and shut out those who just want to have fun.

So you aren’t a fan of earning rank… Making it to five star general doesn’t mean anything other than you played a lot. It’s like XP in H5. I am glad H5 plays competitively. The competitive players have been pretty much ignored since H3. Reach and H4 catered to casual play.
