Over the last couple of months I’ve been trying to improve my game play. Old dog… new tricks so to speak.
Anyhow… was aiming to see if I could get to Diamond (which for me, is aiming high).
But I’m stuck on Platinum 1. For pretty much a month… but I feel I should be around Platinum 3-4.
Yeah, I know. Get good (I’m trying) and find a good team (difficult as I can only play a couple of games at a time).
I’m a conservative player. Try to run around with team-mates… and usually end up with a score line around the 10 kills, 8 assists, and 8-10 deaths. My primary aim is to at least break even in my KD.
When we win I only go up a little (1 or 2 slots). When we lose I seem to give up a huge chunk (3 to 5 slots).
But what really frustrates me is the make up of the teams I get put up with. As the Platinum 1 I am usually the lowest ranked member of the team… but time and time again I am put with high Platinums or even Diamonds who are just rubbish. Tonight alone there were mid-Platinums who went -10 or more. How the Hell did they get such a high rank? (it can’t be in a team as there is no way anyone would stay with them).
If I can somehow push through to mid to high Platinum do the teams get better?
I see your struggle because I’ve been I’m platinum for a very long time, I’m in your boat on this one. Right now I’m plat 3 and that’s usually where I get stuck at, my highest is plat 5 and I cant seem to pass through platinum. (I mean you would think that I’d be hitting onyx with the 900+ hours I have in h5 alone) I’ve been grinding on here for a while so idk, my best advice is play and when you see a player do really good then invite them and try to form a team of 4,
Usually the Game boils down to positioning and mechanical skill, and movement. I usually place in Onyx 1500-1600 in Slayer by best advice is:
With the Magnum you always would want to practice this as much as possible with practicing in HCS settings to help your awareness and mechanical skills with the magnum there isn’t really much clear tips no how to get better with it all you can do is practice usually a player can improve their accuracy by around 10-15% and the rest is just natural talent and you would have to compensate by outplaying, movement, and positioning. Also try and play with better players as well personally with me I improved a lot playing against top tier onyx and champ players because I saw how they moved and positioned, naded around the map
Positioning is where I see Plats really mess up like embarrassingly so. Everyone in higher ranks (high tier diamonds n above) plays around their team constantly (meaning backing them up in a 1v1) , they also look at the spawns and try and predict where people will spawn by looking at where their team is positioned. If you see a teammate’s tag goes yellow it means the are fighting some1 and if you are near you can give them a hand a 2v1 kills a lot faster than a 1v1 and reduces the chance of you or ur teammate getting traded out. when you are playing think about where people are spawning, how can you help out your team? etc.
Finally Movement do your best to learn complex jumps that can get you to places faster this makes a huge difference in game people can move around the map fast so it is harder to get power points without contention if you can get to those points before others and get a few shots it makes a difference
If what I said confused you, a youtuber that helped me out was proximity he has good tutorials on all of this stuff and can help you honestly.

> if you only play few per time will be harrd for you, you need to practice a lot to be good in H5
Life gets in the way… but I can still get up to 5-10 games a day… just in 2 or 3 bursts.
I appreciate I’m too old and too busy to be really good.
The frustration is that I know I am better than my current rank.
Why do I regularly break even in games yet my Platinum 4 team-mate goes -10 or worse? How did they get to Platinum 4???
It seems like I am in rut where as Platinum 1 I am always the lowest ranked in the team. Everyone else is usually mid Platinum to Diamond (and occasional Onxy). And while I am usually good enough to break even on the K:D… I just can’t compete with the damage done by the higher members of my teams… so I don’t get much of a leg up.
Started at Platinum 1.1. Didn’t finish well (should have warmed up). Went 9K-7A-12D. We won! But to prove my point a Platinum 5 team mate went 7 and 15 (minus 8).
Second game started Platinum 1.3. Went 11-5-10. Only one on my team to finish positive. The Diamond 2 in my team went 11-5-17. I know it’s team based… but seriously, what chance do I have if our Diamond player is rubbish?
Dropped to Gold 6.7 (seriously? Dropped over half a division). Went 15-8-9 but lost. Down to Gold 6.4. The Platinum 3 in my side went 5-11-16. Seriously. What the Hell?
So… thought I played pretty solidly. Tried my best to be in the positive ledger. Concentrated on team kills / assists. Went after opposition snipers and camo campers… but went from Platinum 1 to Gold 3 in the space of three games.
I get it that you need a good team to get really good. But all I’m asking is that players at least perform like advertised. I was pretty much the lowest ranked player in my team in every game… so I really need those ranked above me to hold their own.

Yeah I forgot to mention if your hitting a skill wall play in a 4 stack try to find a company that is still active. It improves your teamwork skills a lot
I am happy I’m slowly improving. Comfortable team player.
It’s when I go positive but lose because I am continually teamed up with over-ranked players. Mid to high platinums and occasionally diamonds who go negative. Often by double digits. And it feels like it is 3 to 4 out of every 5 games.
Are these people handing their controllers over to younger siblings or something?
I’d be very happy if I was playing better than those ranked below me and being beaten by those above me.
I just got frustrated and started trying to play more aggressively than my skills allowed. Dropped another level. Sigh.
I looked up the season stats of one of the ‘star’ diamonds who let me down a while ago. They had 99 kills, 129 deaths, and 44 assists for the season. That’s a KDA of -1.4. Their W/L was 3 out of 11 (27%). How in the almighty do they get a Diamond 1 ranking.

I know that this can be annoying. I guess really the only thing you can do is improve your skill and ignore the game’s rank for you. Previous ranks impact the placement ranking so maybe they haven’t played for awhile but were really good before Only thing I can think of which would explain their rank and skill.
If you keep improving, then maybe in infinite you’ll see better ranks that more represent your skill.
Welcome to the world of randoms. There is not much you can do: The matchmaking in H5 has always been subpar, needless to say really frustrating. I just finished my 11th game in TA (plat4) and it is, to put it simple, shear luck what kind of teammates you will get when you solo-Q especially in the plat-tier. Statistical low-diamond players who forgot how to aim? Check. Gold-players who go full pro mode? Check.
I’m afraid as long as you are in plat tier, this will remain. Once you reach mid-diamond tier, this is where the higher skilled player pool will be: you will notice a huge increase in skill (gap), the reason why most of the excessive farming-randoms can’t pass through.
Yeah I have the same problem. When I team with some friends we do really well and we rank up. When you can’t play together and you get teamed with some diamonds who are just going through the motions, down we go. OR your are doing well and you’re plat 3 and you go up against four diamond 4’s or onyx and get hammered. It’s just the way it goes. Hopefully infinite will find a way to help this but…

This looks like a good question for Josh on the matchmaking forum. He can look at specific matchups as well as your gameplay in general and tell you why you’re ranking up slowly and getting unfair matches.

I’ve heard this had to do with MMR. CSR is a totally different rank from your true skill. If you qualify into platinum, like I just did, but managed to go positive in almost all your games while your teammates get dunked on, the game will recognize you as a “good platinum.” Whereas other players who got carried alot may rank as a platinum, but the game will consider them a “bad platinum.” This is the way it was explained to me once. MMR is a hidden true skill rank that is much more fluid than CSR.
It might help to explain why golds can sometimes outplay diamonds.

My brother who is into league of legends really explained it good, so if you put the queue search to focused then it goes by YOUR skill and rank has nothing to do with it
I have the same problem. I generally go positive have a 3.3 KDA and 1.2 KD in slayer this season but only rank around plat 5-6. With D1 my highest. I think to move up more you either have to be incredible individually or play with a team. I always get crushed by teams. I’m pretty sure I’ve hit my individual skill level plateau
