Advice for lower rank spartans

Being an SR25 and 2 weeks in the game, I have come to realise that the way I play is nothing short of spectacular or really helpful to the Senior Spartans I play with…

So, with the aim of further improving myself and help others, I would like to ask for advice from the experienced guys as to what we, lower ranked Spartans, can do better to help ourselves and the team…

I play WZFF almost exclusively at the moment…

Thank you in advance and see you on the battle field.

Your SR has nothing to do with your skill level or your ability to contribute with the possible exception of WZFF where you may not have the supply of tanks, wraiths, and ghosts to help out your team. Play the game, have fun, and send me a message if you see me on your team in a match and I’ll spawn you something fun.

Winning a FF game is heavily dependent on your team’s REQ usage, not so much skill. But you can still make a difference in other ways!

  • Prioritize destroying Watchers because they can FULLY restore a boss’s health. So while they aren’t as threatening as a Soldier or a Knight, they’re just as annoying and can make the difference between losing or winning a round. - Pick up and use AI weapons to your advantage. Higher Knights and Elites will drop power weapons like Incineration and Fuel Rod Cannons (better variants too like River of Light!).

As a 148 and Onyx player, here’s what I say:

  • Grind Warzone Assault with your Pistol only - Play FFA so you don’t let down teammates and can practice your patience (FFA is frustrating) - CTF Warmup or Octagon against someone worse than you - Open Silver Packs

Yeah this is probably the most helpful advice OP can get. It takes time to build up a big enough collection of reqs to be able to consistently do well in WZFF. Aside from that, just play it a lot to get more familiar with the rounds.

Also let me add one thing: Do not sell your scout hogs

Dont take the game too serious is the best advice I can give you, when you got betrayed or farmed just stay calm and dont rage over the mic or the messages its better for your reputation and your heart.

I would say play more warzone or stuff like slayer where people will be more competitive so that they will try and you can play against players that will be better than you and you will slowly progress and get better.

All of these are fantastic tips. I would add, stick with your teammates, sometimes staying alive is better so back away, and finally play play play.

I have to agree on this.

Most of my deaths are due to the fact I get in a rush to go close and have a shot (usually uncovered)…

Make sure to check who you are shooting at. I’ve had a couple friendly fire incidents with the Rocket Launcher…

You’ re right…

Especially power weapons are quite dangerous in the hands of inexperienced Spartans. Too much damage if a mistake is made.

I think I’ll just stick to my trusted AR for a bit longer…

For firefight I would get comfortable driving Scouthogs as they are valuable in the first 2 rounds when splattering small enemies. After a round finishes get to a req station that is in a central location or had a vehicle bay and get your loadout weapons ready. Don’t call anything in until you know what the round is, you don’t want a weapon or vehicle that won’t do be of much use in the round.

The only warzone type I would play for both rp and to get better is assault. If you don’t care that much about rp then play a lot of FFA , as its likely the best way to improve. Watch back your replays in theater. I like to do that every 3 games or so. But play to improve yourself not to get a higher rank like onyx.

Great advice (quite safe too)…

Cheers!

Surprisingly a lot of low level reqs work great in the first 3 rounds. Scouts to splatter and then ghosts for a like bit extra boost. Down side is getting a vehicle hijacked ( you can get scout or Warthogs back by jumping in the passenger seat once you do that they jump out). Plasma caster is a good weapon to use for a lot of boss fights that require getting close. Plasma pistol is a must for enemy vehicles that are destroying a team.

Thank you Spartans!

A lot of great advice may be found here.

Lets keep it rolling!!!

Open silver packs!!! I totally messed up the req pack opening system when the game first game out.

I keep seeing advice all over these forums saying go for the silver packs, instead of Gold. You know you’ve got all the REQs you can from silver when you started getting REQ points refunded.

As someone in a similar position (SR 24 I think) the best advice I can give for ranking up, is simply play. I’ve ranked up a lot more recently just by playing Arena games, and using REQ boosts that give extra XP.

Here’s something i want to share, is something i always say to newcomers in the gears of war community:

  • Map awareness
  • Master weaponry and movement
  • If u lose, DO NOT COMPLAIN, rewatch your gameplay and GG!

Happy hunting spartan!
