Ads in Waypoint

Just liked to say thanks to the marketing geniuses at 343/MS that allow me to view even more commercials with the new update to Waypoint on the 360. I just can’t get enough advertising, really…thanks so much. I don’t think I can even use Waypoint anymore for fear that I might faint from so much joy.

Waypoint is a free service no shame in my thoughts that they put some adds. More money in their pockets the better their next game will hopefully be.

Are you seriously complaining about have to wait through ads? Seriously?

> Waypoint is a free service no shame in my thoughts that they put some adds. More money in their pockets the better their next game will hopefully be.

I agree with this

Ω

What ads?

> Waypoint is a free service no shame in my thoughts that they put some adds. More money in their pockets the better their next game will hopefully be.

I saw a post about this yesterday and thought the exact same thing

> Waypoint is a free service no shame in my thoughts that they put some adds. More money in their pockets the better their next game will hopefully be.

Technically not true since it is a gold only feature.

> What ads?

Ads in the latest Xbox version?

Good thing I only go to it when I’m so freaking lazy I can’t walk 5 feet to my computer.

> Waypoint is a free service no shame in my thoughts that they put some adds. More money in their pockets the better their next game will hopefully be.

To be truly Honest; How many places have you seen make their games better with ads helping them? Seriously, they already have the money, they just want more.

343i: Even though waypoint is free, why add ads? Seriously, and don’t update Reach.

Me: Oh, a new waypoint update, lets update.
343i: Victim 1; Mwhahaha
Me: Seriously Spent 5 hours downloading the new update just for adds, meh, I wasted my time. lets play Cod Black Ops, No adds there.
343i: Meh, lost 1, but we still have over x amount of people who are still their
Me: If you can waste your time making adds on waypoint then making new forgeworlds or updating halo reach to have new maps or object items, then I guess I won’t play halo 4 b/c I sense ads coming my way…
343i: Lets add ads to Halo 4 from now on, to make moar money; Mwhahaha
Me: Well, see you; won’t be playing that game. Cod Blackops 2, here I come…

Seriously, if your updating something, at least update reach to have more items, not update bleedthrough, or bloom, remove swordblock; Yes its been done; But update reach to have more Reach stuff; Not 343i do this or don’t use this xbox live with this game anymore demanding updates. I wish you’d realize to make updates optional while still remaining online. Just make it so people did update can vs other updated players while me and non-updated players can play together.

[I sreiously miss the old xbox 360 dashboard, seriously, it was loads better.]

Also, to point out the obvious:

Ads always makes things even slower[becuase ads are always running in the background;even after closing them; in order to see wjat ads r right for u], some times causes computers to freeze or are usually infected with viruses…

So, congratulations 343i: You have Brought Viruses to the Xbox, Gee, thanks, as just as I thought the xbox was an virus free software…Xbox 360’s are different designed computers; So they can get infected; So don’t go saying they can’t; Why do you think the red ring of death exists?

Im sure alot of you have seen this but advertisement has come to waypoint my only question is why? it wasn’t necessary and there really is no meaning for it and it gets annoying but Ill admit some of the games are fun.

> Im sure alot of you have seen this but advertisement has come to waypoint my only question is why? it wasn’t necessary and there really is no meaning for it and it gets annoying but Ill admit some of the games are fun.

Greedy, parsimonious, avaricious, covetous Microsoft. Thats why.

Welcome to the 21st century, where companies find new ways to force you to watch stupid ads, that are complete wast of time.

you know I really want these things to go they are annoying and distracting why 343 why

^This

It’s as bad as the channels on XM radio with commercials…

Gold is not free therefore Waypoint is not free, so please keep future Waypoint videos ad free…uh…343.

> you know I really want these things to go they are annoying and distracting why 343 why

Because Microsoft told them to, and they can.

First of all, I’d like to thank the forums for eating my goddamned post. At least now, I have a slight idea as to the cause of the bug…

Anyway, I haven’t seen the ads yet as I’ve not used the console app in a while. I’ll check it out when I get on my 360 in a bit. In the meantime, speculative replies for everyone! :stuck_out_tongue:

I agree that 343i’s priorities may be a bit misplaced. Updating Reach is far more important than adding ads to Waypoint, especially since 343i clearly does not need ad revenue; they’re a subsidiary of an obscenely-rich technology company. However, some of your other points are… off.

> Ads always makes things even slower[becuase ads are always running in the background;even after closing them; in order to see wjat ads r right for u], some times causes computers to freeze or are usually infected with viruses…

The Waypoint app’s main functions don’t appear to be very resource-intensive, so in all likelihood, there’s more than enough RAM and CPU time to support ads without it impacting or slowing the app’s main functionality.

False.

Few developers – certainly not 343i – would be reckless or irresponsible enough to allow untrusted and unsecured third-party content (such as advertisements) to run actual program code inside of a game or app. Any game or app that took those kinds of risks would not be approved by Microsoft, and hence would not be available for download or sale. In all likelihood, the ads seen in Waypoint are simply ordinary videos or pictures. The ads shouldn’t be doing anything; they should just be there; ergo they are not, and cannot introduce, viruses.

Final nail in the coffin is that an Xbox 360 will not run unsigned code unless its owner is doing things that would get them banned from Xbox LIVE, in which case, it won’t matter if they get viruses – which they still probably won’t – because a banned 360 is pretty much an oversized paperweight anyway.

In summation: Ads in Waypoint probably suck, will probably annoy a lot of people, are unnecessary, and may be an indication of hideously-misplaced priorities; however, they will not, cannot, and never will be able to give you any sort of “virus”. <mark>Feel free to rage at them (constructively and civilly, without breaking forum rules!), but you need not fear them.</mark>

I experienced them. I disapprove of them, they are counter productive!
I say we voice our opinion. Also, waypoint team is not equal to reach team:

I just know that my friends know how to add viruses to xbox 360 and send it through to their friends by infecting ads but they won’t because they love the xbox 360. But I know they know how to do it; as they went into college to build; design games and consoles of their own, and other various things. One of them had pallete of micro’s and made them play notes…musical notes. Very cool and very riveting.

So, sorry for blaming 343i; Again; I was just upset for them making me download a program that all they did was just add ads and new logo in the front…It takes my internet forever to download stuff…
