So, I see that a lot of us, and me included, dislike the new CTF 343 made. But we can easily understand that it isn’t really that bad once you think about this.
They are changing CTF, yes, but its not really the changes you guys are angry about. They are changing it so the style of the gametype being played is changed.
In previous games, CTF had the style of “Push up. Go to enemy base. Bring it back, pass it to teammates, do whatever as you hold off enemies to get the flag back home.” This was what happened when 2 competitive teams faced each other. Players could lone wolf it, infiltrating enemy bases alone and juggling it back. This was the way the game was played.
Now, 343 has changed it so that its no longer much of a CTF game. You pick up the flag, the flag is not the center of attention. YOU are. The game is, you could say, no longer CTF - its VIP. Your teams job when you don’t have the flag is generally to slay, push up, grab it. Same as before. But once grabbed, the game changes into your team defending this one guy, falling back, etc. Making sure he doesn’t die. The game is changed to where the flag holder is the center of attention. CTF has changed from a more stealthy, push up or lose gametype, to a grab the flag, then slay everyone to protect the older.
Think of it as a combo of CTF and VIP now. The skill gap in CTF is changed, as the game style itself has changed.
Now, the problems we need to address is this.
- Auto pickup - gone, please. I’m serious, 343i, while changing CTF might not be something to be ashamed of, this is.
- A waypoint over your head - can’t you change it so that there’s only a waypoint if damage is dealt to you by an enemy, or the enemy player is using something like Awareness package?
- Classic CTF - A gametype which is more similar to previous games would be good.
- MLG better have Classic CTF - it challenges good players to make the decisions in a game like that.
In essence, the new CTF is very much an evolution. You might think that its a useless change, but I’m sure that with Universal sprint and all these new stuff, the new CTF could be fun. Personally, I know that I would like to play it - so long as it has no auto-pickup flag, or I’m not touching that death pole unless I just died or have a team.
TL;DR: CTF is changed so its also similar to VIP, auto pickup needs to be removed, classic CTF needs to be still here.
