I believe that if Halo 5 was equipped with every game mode, and if many of the requests were implemented into the game, the pool of complaint would remain. I understand the game can be better in some areas, all games can. But things take a process. And what somebody might desire, is not something somebody else might. 343 is not a malicious company. Sure they can improve. But you try and please a community that is constantly bickering and providing no core solutions. Why would a company deliberately sabotage a game and ignore its fan base? It wouldn’t. That destroys their business in the long run and their image. The downfall of Halo isn’t 343, but the people. This culture of I WANT IT NOW, THIS ISN’T TAILORED FOR ME, instant gratification is the problem. Halo 5 at its core is a solid game.
I wouldn’t have gotten fed up with the game anywhere near as quickly if they had all the expected gamemodes at launch. Infact I still don’t have the gamemodes in matchmaking that I was expecting. Sure there would be complaints but less about gamemodes.
You talk about a “I want this now” or “this isn’t tailored to me” crowd but gamemodes that are a core part of Halo do not fall under this category. I can see how you could be right about things like map choice and sprint not being tailored to everyone but gamemodes are a basic thing to include.
Yeah but halo fans are some of the pickiest people on the planet. Hell even I am. Because after the amazing things bunge pulled off we basically set a bar that had to be met for halo to be good. In my opinion the only game that 343 managed to reach that bar with was CE anniversary. I mean mcc had such amazing potential but it’s a broken mess. Halo 4 had a good story but it’s multiplayer was just… Awful. And halo 5… There was a key campaign, and everyone just can’t agree with much in its multiplayer. With all the issues, the constant recycling of maps to where it feels like all the maps are just a slightly reskined version of another map.
Don’t believe me?
Empire is a smaller eden without a bridge in the middle
Truth is regret but it’s missing like 2 walls
Overgrowth is plaza but it’s small and crowded
And then there’s all the remixes of the already existing maps.
So while 343 has made mistakes I can agree that they can definitely improve but I feel like their just going in the wrong direction.
Lets establish some facts
- All Halo games in the past have had a wealth of content - Halo 2 was not finished on time yet still had plenty to offer including a revolutionary Multiplayer and Campaign - All games suffer from set backs - Halo 5 had the standard 3 years - All games go through re writes - 343 do care about Halo - 343 do listen to Community feedback - There will always be haters and lovers of 343 - Nostalgia does blind people - Past Halos were popular for a reason - Halo 5 is a good solid game at its coreFor me the issue isn’t that 343 screwed up but the fact that they refuse to talk to us about what happened and what they are planning. Imagine how many pointless hate posts could have been avoided if 343 just came clean and said “were sorry we screwed up” and if they gave us a realistic timeline of when new game modes were going to come out, “Hey community Infection will be dropping in may tell us what features you want”.
The community does live in a salt mine and the community as a whole should learn to be less toxic but 343 need to do there bit to, 343 acting like they can do no wrong to the series by removing classic features or makin pointless changes is not the best way for them to mange Halo.
Both 343 and the community need to play there part.

Yeah and the lack of gamemodes probably is doing to the fact that the community wanted a competitive game but didn’t really think that this is what a competitive game would look like

Also, a determing factor of how many playlists there will be is the size of the population. AAA console shooters aren’t bringing in the numbers they used to, Halo included.

I would like to think I do but sadly I dont, even I post negative comments every once and a while even though I shouldn’t or don’t entirely mean to.
As I said above both 343 and the community need to play there part, and we can only do that if we are not divided. If we want Halo to thrive instead of survive everyone needs to make an effort to try and get along, to me that’s just common sense.
Halo 5 is a good game and I really enjoy it, but you’re kidding yourself if you think it’s content at launch was acceptable.
Every sequel in the Halo franchise has built on the previous game, including Halo 4, proof that 343 aren’t stupid and kind of know what they’re doing. Despite this Halo 5 had the LEAST contend since Halo CE. How is that acceptable? I bought this game expecting it to have Infection, BTB, a selection of social playlists etc… but I turned it on for the first time and was absolutely shocked that there were only two options; Warzone and Ranked Arena. Wanting AT LEAST what the previous title had isn’t being picky, it’s what you should expect.
If 343 had said “Oh btw, we’re only going to release the absolute minimum we can and slowly trickle out the rest of the game to make it look like we’re doing something” I would’t have bought an Xbox One let alone Halo 5.
It’s a con, no question. It should be illegal and probably would be if they didn’t make so much money from the req packs it sells.
Luckily I really like Arena so I’m having a whale of a time, but if I was a more casual player I’d be furious.

And despite all of this, there will still be a metric ton of hate posts because it’s the internet and it’s Halo. It has always been that way on Halo forums. Bungie got so much crap on H3 for the dumbest of things, I would expect no less here.
