Add a veto function (similar to the original Halo 3 setup)
Bring back the original map/gametype combinations
It’s all related to the overall theme of letting players choose what they want to play. The vast majority of MCC players are those who originally played Halos 2-3 back in the day. We sure would like to see some of those playlists that Bungie put together. Instead 343 seems to have the attitude that they know best, and we are not even given a chance to play so many of the map/gametype combinations originally created for these games.
I realize that there are some people that do like some of 343’s more questionable decisions. However, there are those of us that much prefer the classic combinations Bungie originally added, so many of which have been removed over the years. Bringing back those classic combinations while also adding a Veto feature lets us all choose what we want. It sure would be great if half of all Reach games were not on some user-made Forge map. Or if we could play Valhalla outside of Big Team Battle. It was one of the original 4v4 Beta maps for Christ’s sake, and arguably the most memorable in the game, but I digress…
343’s biggest problem is they cater completely to a vocal minority of Halo “pros,” and as a result, only that small minority actually still plays the games (Infinite included). Not everything needs to be of symmetric and/or three lane design. There’s a reason Blood Gulch and Lockout were so popular for so long. They prioritized fun, even at the occasional expense of perfect balance.
All I’m asking is how about let us players choose? if >50% of Halo players consistently think that 4v4 on Valhalla is great fun, how about you just let us play it?
• challenges that incentivize people to play BTB and Rumble Pit
• join in progress toggle option so players can join when others quit
• H2 SWAT map re-weighting, it’s always Colossus and hardly LockShip
• Disable CE BTB betrayal booting, sensitive vehicle physics cause many unintended deaths & matches end w/ half of the people kicked due to accidental betrayals
as much as i’d love to see more content added to the game, and i know there’s a lot of god content that can be added in, i’d rather 343 focus more on quality of life improvements. not to say they shouldn’t add any more content like armor and the like, i just think their focus should be on qol right now. here’s generally what i was thinking
-fixing glitches that are still impacting gameplay in multiplayer and campaign
-allowing all cutscenes to be skipped (as well as having one universal way to skip all the cutscenes)
-improved subtitles (they said they’d do this awhile ago but there’s been no updates)
-individual button mapping for controls (i think 343 mentioned something about this?)
-halo reach elites getting per piece customization (not quite qol but i wouldn’t count this as a content update)
-increasing the forge limit to allow for more stuff to be placed in a map
-allowing the ability to turn off kill barriers in forge maps to allow for greater map designs
-a music player so we can listen to every song in the franchise
-also, it’d be nice to customize what music plays in each menu
i’m sure there’s some other qol stuff that i missed, but in my eyes, these are the most important
Join in Progress + Vote to surrender.
Vote to surrender would be a better alternative than the mixed response ban system. If someone afk’s or leaves, a team can just surrender instead of risking a ban, or spend time loosing for 7 minutes.
They couldn’t even take the glitches out of Halo infinites story mode an it hasn’t even been a year, so I doubt it would even be worth fixing up MCC without getting backlash. Why even take the glitches out. It takes about 30 mins to beat the campaign although I’m sure that speed run wasn’t easy to pull off it shows the game is glitchy.
The biggest problem with patching glitches in MCC is that for people who played the original games on the Xbox Original/360 the glitches were part of the game, so 343 need to take great care in what they change. My personal opinion is they need to only patch the glitches in the legacy games that seriously effect gameplay (e.g. invincible, invisible enemies, game crashes or others that softlock the games) or that weren’t in the original release. Another thing to take into account in multiplayer is what is occasionally called “glitch-meta” where a glitch is considered part of the overall meta of the game.
i understand that and i completely agree. i could have specified that in my post. when i argue against glitches for the mcc, i’m talking about game breaking glitches. there’s certainly some glitches that should remain in the game for legacy sake
One thing I’ve been wanting (and am irritated isn’t in the latest update) is a an in game platform for downloading mods (similar to Steam Workshop) where mods could be downloaded faster and more easily. I’m tired of having to scour the web for mods from dubious sites only to have move them into a mod folder and hope they work. What adding a mod platform would do is make mods easier to find and reduce the chances of getting malicious files on your computer.
Not to mention things like what is sometimes called glitch-meta where mods are so well known and easy to do that they have become a part of multiplayer and are perfectly legitimate to do.
I still don’t know why people think MCC is coming to an end. From what I’ve read they have no intention of stopping any time soon. I might be wrong but I have yet to see any evidence to say otherwise other than speculation.
I think it’s a three part thing - a general fear, a recognition of patterns, and the knowledge that the Master Chief Collection isn’t likely to make significant money from free updates. It’s typical for franchises with new releases to slow the previous release to support the next, especially with Season 8 “being the last” despite the new content. The Master Chief Collection also has little opportunity for funds (though that’s more ambiguous since their updates inherently support sales for Xbox Live and Game Pass services). Game companies often say “Of course we’ll still offer support”, but then cut it on the next success.
But Infinite isn’t quite guaranteed to be “the next success” so things are very ambiguous right now.
The team has only confirmed support through 2022. Nothing has been said about 2023, but by the look of it there is no way the remaining content/planned features will release in time before the end of year. I think it’s a safe bet that support will continue until the mod tools are released however long that takes, but to assume 343 will continue to support the MCC without a more concrete announcement is naive. Halo 5 and HW2 support were dropped pretty abruptly.
I dont think 343 will cut support for awhile theres still lots of stuff to be incorporated given there trend i see these coming after august update
-Moa Statues for Halo CE, Halo 2 & Halo 4
-Cross platform Campaign Testing for remaining Halo Games
-the rest of the new skulls added to Halo Reach and Halo 4 ( I know more are coming but more on that after)
-Misssing H3 Season Armors that didnt make the cut returning as future Content
-Level 1-329 Spartan Points Unlocks (Been Confirmed in the August Update)
-Various Bug Fixes Across all the Titles
Its honestley a shame some of this stuff takes priority over the rest, as well as features we dont ask for ( though some we Like) I’m dissapointed this august update wont feature an increased file size limit as this post has had some attention and still no real word
I see MCC continuing support though more limited or spread out in 2023, seeing how Halo Infinite is still having troubles 343 could continue returning here for fallback and fan service in between spread out halo infinite Updates
I would also like for more fps options. Settings for 90 fps, 150 fps, etc. And more graphical options outside of “performance,” “original,” and “enhanced.”
I don’t know if MCC desperately needs these changes before support is cut, it doesn’t seem like support is being cut in the foreseeable future anyway. Still, the changes you listed would be nice. I’d like to see some of the still existing audio and visual bugs in Halo 3, 4, Reach be addressed, split screen be included on PC, and mod support for all games first before I’d worry about things like spartan points and cut content.
MCC is the primary way most people enjoy these games now so many more years of support is essential before they cease large scale updates for the game. If they dropped support after releasing Reach and 4 mod tools then that’d be a big issue.
I’m pretty sure every game on the collection have been shut down on almost everything other than the MCC so this isn’t the primary way people play the games its the only way. (Although I can’t be certain.)
The matchmaking services for the original releases have been discontinued. The games are absolutely still playable. You can put the Halo 3 disc into your Xbox 360 today and play the game from start to finish, forge your own maps, play splitscreen, LAN, multiplayer and theater mode.
Additionally third parties host alternative matchmaking services. Some are older than others. Let’s also not forget about the original Halo CE and Halo 2 PC ports which are playable to some extent or the other.
MCC is FAR from the only way to play legacy titles. If you want to play matchmaking then MCC is the most accessible option.
