The game has a few irks and quirks that I have to get used to but it is in a good shape currently.
Currently we have Arena and BTB, where you are at the mercy of matchmaking to decide if you end up in a Slayer match or CTF, but that is a completely different issue.
I was shocked to see game modes like SWAT not be included neither in Ranked nor Social playlists.
Is there any word on if those modes might come back, hopefully permanently and if rotating “fun” playlists will be a thing again like in older games? (Think of Double-Snipers, Rockets only etc.)

I think they’ll add and subtract things as time goes on. We’ll have to see what they consider core vs. rotational or event playlists and game types.
“Our approach to Halo Infinite’s launch playlists was fairly simple – start with a focused offering to ensure healthy matchmaking and be prepared to adjust as needed. It is truly a live game, so we will be monitoring all playlists, including event playlists, to see which ones are performing well and which ones aren’t. Using that data, combined with player feedback, we will be able to identify opportunities to add or remove playlists (or even certain map and mode pairings within a playlist), to ensure a quality experience when playing Halo Infinite matchmaking. Launch is just the beginning - Halo Infinite’s online multiplayer experience will grow and evolve over time!”
That’s good news regarding things like event playlists etc. but so far SWAT was always a fan favorite since it’s introduction. I was a bit surprised to see it not be included in the initial release. Hopefully they will get a chance sooner rather then later but with Campaign release right around the corner and their announced break during Christmas (completely deserved btw!) I sadly don’t see any new modes be introduced anytime soon. Earliest I’d say February.
They absolutely have to change this. Its a pain in the butt to get into random game modes instead of choosing. I have been trying 3(!) hours to get those 3 Oddball Matches for the Challenge. Havent gotten a single one. Feels absolutely not good this way.

I agree. I understand the concern from 343i about spreading the playerbase too thin by introducing dozens of different game modes but with the current progression system, NOT offering that selection is also just a weird decision, since it already forces you to play in a specific way if you want to progress through the battle pass and yet actively works against you.
We need competitive game modes. Slayer is horrible, Oddball is a camp fest.
Where is SWAT and Breakout? Come on 343. Even Bungie had more game modes at least.
