Adding to Spartan Customisation

Spartan Customisation has evolved nicely over the Halo Games, from changing colour to attachments and more varied choices in armour pieces.

Personally though, I think customising Spartans shouldn’t be just cosmetic. It should evolve in to a way to truly personalise your playstyle etc on certain playlists.

I suggest allowing us to tweak the our Spartans functionally. We could have a series of stats such as strength, speed and dexterity and link them with a points system. As you add and take points away from each set of Stats, your Spartan gains some slight advantages and disadvantages, not enough to be game breaking, but enough to leave some thought on how to plan your fights and how you will fare in certain situations.

For example, you could make your Spartan faster, allowing you to get to a weapon quicker than your opponent, say a rocket launcher, your opponent arrives just moments after you do and sees you with the rocket, you may fire both rockets, but that Spartan may have a slightly better jump height and shields, allowing them to just deflect the worst of the damage. You may have a poor dexterity, so you can’t reload or swap weapons as quickly, so you retreat using your speed. Different combinations can give you slight, healthy advantage over your opponent and a slight disadvantage at the same time.

There also be a preferred weapon for a Spartan, for example, one Spartan may excel with a BR, whilst another would prefer a Sniper Rifle. This can also give a slight edge.

Players will also be able to tell what stats each spartan has in the lobby and also when they track down that players GT in game.

This would hopefully bring more varied and stregetic gameplay. Of course, it would only be available in certain playlists, so all the equal, skilled players who want their simple, beloved arena games can enjoy classic gameplay.

I think that if any gameplay changing armour was to be introduced, then it should be very simple (at least at first).
eg. More speed + Less protection / Less speed + More protection. Even then it should only affect by say 10% max.

As for customisation itself, we need less choice, 40 armour variants is too much, BUT we need more customisation options, the little details.

Nah

Nah

Your idea to add RPG stats in Halo is a good one, but I don’t think it’s quite traditional. Then again, new helmsman for the series, new traditions.

I simply don’t think customizable stats or any sort of “out-of-game to in-game” gameplay personalization belongs in Halo. Players should start the same way they did for 4 of the 5 major titles: on even grounds, and the same weapons, armor, and stats (or “choices” when it came to Reach’s loadouts, which still held to the principal).

The day I heard Halo 4 had custom classes was the day I realized it wouldn’t be any better than Reach, and I was right.

As for more customization, things could probably get more specific in the aesthetics of the armor, like different colors for different portions of the Spartan (or Elite) body, or even armor ticks and scars and whatnot.

What you are suggesting is basically just another version of Perks, what has already been introduced with Halo 4 and did not work out well and is one thing that has no possible future and place in Halo’s online MM, in my opinion.

Halo has always been about equal, fair and balanced starts but when you mess with the base player traits it is impossible to offer that.
Even though (most) Perks/ Armor Modifications are not game-breaking among each other, they are causing game-breaking combinations with other items and mechanics.

In conclusion, I think armor should only be and stay aesthetical and should not affect the base player traits.
However, that does not mean that ideas to customize your prefered playstyle like Custom Loadouts cannot work in Halo but they should definitely not include something like Perks.
Also, I do not think splitting the community into several playlists with entirely different base settings is the proper solution. I think you have to find a compromise.
