adding a skill gap to the auto weapons and shotgun

I am fully aware no dev is ever going to look at this and competitive play will probably consist of only BR/Sniper/SpnKR but just some interesting thoughts on how to widen the skill gap in the rest of the weapon sand box particularly the auto weapons

first off auto aim should be reduced across the board

AR/SMG traditionally these weapons are your basic spray happy bullet whose. Their ease of use is actually attributed to their inaccuracy combined with high fire rates and high auto aim. a few solutions to rectify this would be

  • remove spread completely, reduce the auto aim to be the same as the BR, however have degenerative damage over distance. or keep the degenerative accuracy however have the first 2 shots perfectly accurate, the next 2 shots with .1 degrees of deviation the next 2 with .2, and the next 2 with .4 and the next with .8 so and so forth. yes the degenerative accuracy combined with head shots dose allow some room for luck to be the deciding factor, but the only people who that will really affect are competitive players who never use CQC or auto weapons anyway.

  • add quite a bit of muzzle jump, yes to keep the game consistant it would have to be predictable however just having to fight that while aiming at a moving target could make them far more difficult to be accurate with spite the weapons them selves having perfect accuracy

  • add head shot ability or head shot multiplier, to unshielded targets of course

PR/Spiker, the biggest problem with these is their low projectile velocity combined with high auto aim, the auto aim actually gets in the way because if your trying to hit a moving target you cannot lead your shots the auto aim will not let you. if these weapons were perfectly accurate and had little to no auto aim they’d be perfect

needler, halo reach actually did this weapon rather well, in previous halos the needles simply tracked the nearest target, in halo reach you had keep the reticule red for the needles to track, granted it was way too easy to keep the reticule red therefore the targeting radius should be reduced and the weapon is perfect

shotgun maybe if it had a more realistic spread however sever damage drop off, severely reduced auto aim, and a head shot multiplier it would be a bit more skill oriented.

just some thoughts discus

Make the shotgun spread more concentrated near the center to reward better aiming with it.

Make SMGs and ARs dead accurate and have recoil, but make the recoil only able to move within it’s aiming reticle circle, then give a 2nd reticle like the crosshair in Reach which would mark where the gun is currently aiming inside the the aiming reticle circle. This wouldn’t change much for noobs just spraying, but it would let better players to try to aim using the smaller crosshair to control the ‘recoil’.

And make the AR more accurate.
And the PR/Spiker: leading shots with massive spread is impossible, makes the weapon useless.

Same thing I’ve been posting. But good work, I’m glad others share my view.

the PR was perfectly accurate in halo CE and had stun which was fantastic
the spiker in halo 3 tom my knowledge did not have enough spread to matter however the auto aim made them useless against half competent players.

I don’t know if the AR is in this game, and I don’t think it should be or it should have returned in the form of the battle rifle. the MA5 is the iconic rifle of the halo series and I think instead of making it a spray weapon, it should have been a semi auto or burst fire utility weapon. the issue with having both the AR and BR is aesthetically it’s redundant, the BR/SMG combo is a little more believable and aesthetically diverse.
