When MCC first came out, voting sucked because if you liked a certain game, too bad. You’re playing Valhalla Halo 3. Which isn’t the worst, but after ten matches, it gets very boring.
But now we have the composer and i can choose what game to play (:
But the map rotation isn’t balanced, some maps have a higher chance of being played than others, (unless i have bad luck)
I have played a million more Warlock games than Backwash, change that up, MCC is ready for map voting again
If we could vote on the map that would help since out of a large sample of people I know only a few said they liked or tolerated the new maps. The newly added Halo 3 maps were developed for Halo Online which had sprint and don’t fit Halo 3 (especially Edge and Waterfall). None of the three (including Icebox) have Halo 3’s aesthetic or map design in mind imo (they definitely aren’t as well designed or fun to play).
You realize it’ll just be the same as it was back then, right? If voting returns, BTB will just be Blood Gulch, and H2 Blood Gulch, and H3 Blood Gulch, and Reach Blood Gulch, and H2A Blood Gulch, and H4 remake of H3 Blood Gulch.
In the pregame lobby, give up 3 random maps, maybe each with a different gamemode if we have that turned on. After playing on the chosen map, it will be locked from the rotation, until you play another match, and then it will come back.
Blood Gulch is fun, but not everyone likes it that much, especially if the game mode is slayer. People will choose something else.
Yeah it’s very boring playing the same 3 maps knowing that there are more than 100 maps in the game. I think there are maps that i will never play in matchmaking because of the bad maps rotation.
Why take a step backwards in gaming by adding voting or vetoing… They need to expand the composer and let players turn maps and game types on/off so they are guaranteed the maps and games they want. Of course the most selective you are the slower your matchmaking may be but at least it will be want you want. I know it would probably be tough to do and make work right but would be way better than voting/vetoing… I can already see all the dashboard quitters as soon as they see a vote/veto not going how they want it to go.
People are already doing this. The issue is finding a balance, and I think Veto fits that balance more.
If you allow map selection as well certain maps simply disappear from matchmaking which pigeonholes the Halo experience into the same X maps on repeat. Arguably some players want that, but it’s likely a minority?
343 has data on quitters/AFKs as well as info on how successful voting/vetoing is. They should leverage that and do SOMETHING.
Like with what FFA said, I don’t think selecting maps is the right way.
Halo has always had a random map selection, either you vote it on the random maps, or you are just given one.
Selecting maps will just get stale. I like to play on some inferior maps just to get a different taste than playing the same multiple maps over and over. Plus the composer will just be abused. And you can decide what maps everyone will go up against. People already do it with the gamemode, maps will just limit it further.
Selecting maps would get stale? Then turn off the maps you are tired of… Voting and vetoing don’t allow you to play the less popular maps, they always get voted and vetoed out… By being able to turn on and off the maps you want if games are to repetitive for the player change up your selections. At least then you aren’t relying on other players for what you want to play.
You would be relying on what other people want to you play anyway. I would be able to turn off all maps except for one, and that is the map that everyone trying to match at the same time as me will play.
And that would get stale, because people will only play the same few maps, I don’t get to play the variety that is in the game, no one will turn off the popular maps, voting and vetoing give people a choice instead of being abused by a system that is already exploited.
While stale is likely the wrong term, you’re blatantly ignoring the obvious problem that individual map toggles present; path of least resistance.
there will be a guaranteed hyperfixation on the very maps you claim get picked too often, which will inevitably de-incentivize players from selecting anything BUT those maps if they want reasonable wait times in matchmaking. Veto is by far the best course of action, since it evens the playing field enough to prevent the matchmaking from getting stuck on stale gameplay, without giving players the direct tools to force the matchmaking to be stuck on specific gametype settings, as was the issue with Vote. Now Veto could be expanded with Map-pack specific toggles, though that would more or less be a legacy experience thing.
The “competitive games” are absolutely dead, I’m one of those people that just want to hop on and play the classic Halo 3 maps and for some reason it’s very rare you end up in Standoff, Valhalla, The Pit etc. The maps that first brought all of our joy even before the H3 DLC’s back in the day (which aren’t an issue) for whatever reason. I don’t want to be spending five minutes of time ratching through Edge to find three of four enemies camped out in a corner to do it all again.
Veto or voting should be implemented to help with this. We’re going back to this 15 year old game for a reason - to play that 15 year old game we all knew and loved for what it was, not with the addition of a load of bollocks maps that don’t work for the game.
If that can’t be helped, why can’t we have the “Classic Halo 3” 13 or however many maps it was as a playlist for Social games, not just ranked
I would still rather have map and game type toggles vs the voting/vetoing… A way better chance of getting the games you want on the maps you want. Another plus will be those players who purposely troll/betray because the vote/veto didn’t go their way will go way down. I would rather the game stay as is vs adding voting/vetoing. I get a better variety of games as is than back when there was voting/vetoing.
You haven’t replied to any of the points we have made.
Map variety will go way down, you will be stuck only playing the same popular maps, over and over again.
And trolls/griefers will just abuse the system anyway by only having one map turned on, increasing match times. People who have every map turned on will only play that singular map.
I have been playing Halo since H2… So I remember how it was with vetoing back in the day. Halo is better without it. I don’t want to see either voting or vetoing. Being able to toggle maps and game types on and off would be better IMO… Or how about they just weight all maps and games evenly… Or just make it so a player can’t repeat maps in match making some how. There has to be a pretty simple way to program the match making to not repeat maps for players.
