Add shields to infinite

I personally would love to see something similar to the hardlight shield ability make a return from halo 4 in some way. It produced some cool action in customs and with some tweaking could be very interesting. Imagine it being a pick up style ballistic shield where you have the promethean hardlight shield, the UNSC shield, and the covenant shield that looks like the shield hunters use. You could use them like Skyrim where left trigger raises it and right trigger fires your weapon. (limited to small weapons like the magnum, boltshot, plasma pistol, etc.)

There’s a Jackal shield pickup that works exactly like what you described in a modded version of CE for PC. I would love to see something like that incorporated into Infinite, I enjoy map pickups much more than Armor Abilities.

Agreed! A great part of the original trilogy was that everyone started each game on the same level with the same load out. Then you had to run around the map and actually look for stuff like the sniper rifle, shotgun, etc to make you more competitive depending on the environment.

Yoooooooo to wield a jackal shield is a dream come true!

Sounds cool, maybe for campaign. I feel like that would be too good in multiplayer.

Yeah I’d love to see the SPV3 jackal shield in HI too. That would be pretty great tbh

I think it’d be cool for it to be like the shields in Rainbow. You can hipfire while maintaining cover, but less accuracy. Or you could peek over for more accuracy, but less cover.

Could make it like the flag in h4 and h5 where you can hold it with a sidearm only but your reticle doubles in size. So yeah you can avoid damage but you’re not likely to dish a good level of it back out. Or your vision is distorted from the plasma of the shield making aiming harder. I don’t want to see it in competitive arena but is a few social gamemodes/maps would make it nifty. Like a btb map where a bunch of covenant are dead and there’s an active shield on a dead jackal

I’ve always been against inherently defensive abilities in Halo. We already have our energy shields – adding more just feels redundant and out of place to me. Every time a player activated armor lock or hardlight shield when I was putting shots into them, I rolled my eyes. It’s just not fun to play against.

I’m sure it could work in campaign though.

I’d say something like a shield that isn’t always available and is a pick up in a map is always better. The biggest problem with armour lock and hardlight shield is that they’re always readily available. If they weren’t, they’d be less annoying.

You’ve just described the bubble shield. If we’re adding something to the game that will, at best, be “less annoying”, we probably shouldn’t add it. We should strive to add mechanics that enrich the gameplay in some way.

For campaign, I guess this could be interesting as long as it is properly balanced so as to not make avoiding damage too easy. However, for multiplayer it’s a total no-go because mechanics that essentially give the player a momentary invincibility at best halt the encounter and create an unnecessary stop in gameplay, and at worst give players a cheap getaway from bad decisions at the press of a button if no weapon use is allowed. If you can fire a weapon while using it, it creates a completely unreasonable power difference where the user is essentially invincible but can still do damage. There’s a good reason we’ve never had an invincibility power-up in multiplayer, and why all damage blocking shields in their various forms have been short lived.

No, just no. It was awful in Halo 4 and would be awful now

I’m torn with this idea. On one hand that does sound cool and something new and fun to mess around with. On the other hand though I am through and trough an arena lover when it comes to Halo. I feel as if that alone would destroy the fluid gameplay that is arena.

I have always wanted a jackal shield since HaloCE. If done right it could be great and not over powered like the hardlight shield or armor lock.
My idea would be : Keep it a permanent combo with a plasma pistol, take away the target reticle if you activate or raise the shield with the left trigger, If you crouch to cover more of your body (like jackals do) your movement speed is extremely slow, if you Sprint the shield disables, with normal movement - your head right side of body and lower body are still exposed. It could be a great defense against a charging energy sword and could possibly make a fun social arena game type - swords and shields.
