Add Proper Vehicle Mechanics

Dear 343i:
I want proper vehicle physics and mechanics in Halo 5.

Explosions:
When a vehicle crashes, it should explodes or break down so you can’t drive it. To do this you would have to increase the top speed of vehicles, and if they ram into the side of a cliff at top speed (specifically flying vehicles) they should explode in a brilliant ball of fire, like Battlefield. There’s been countless times where I’ve gone full speed in a Banshee into a cliff yelling “ALLAHU AKBAR” and then the Banshee awkwardly just touches the cliff and doesn’t explode.

Player Interaction:
Just a few things I would like optimized. When entering a vehicle, add a small pause before you can drive. In previous Halos, you can drive the vehicle before your guy is even in the seat (most notable in the Scorpion). All they need to do is wait 1 second before being able to control the vehicle. Another thing would be if you get out of a vehicle at top speed. When traveling at high speeds, you should throw yourself out and not casually get out while the vehicle suddenly stops. Last thing is to add an animation for flipping vehicles. It would make the game look a lot better. The vehicle flipping mechanic hasn’t changed since CE.

That’s all I have currently. What do you think?

lol no

Woah, take a step back now. We don’t even know of vehicles will be in the game.

Yes, we do.

This made me laugh harder than the original post.

Nice ideas. It would be awesome if you could jump out of a vehicle (like in GTA) and slam it into an enemy at full speed-that would be awesome. Also, you’re right about getting into vehicles. I always thought that it was weird when you could drive the Scorpion even though your Spartan is still going through the animation/climbing into the vehicle. And the explosions part of your post… YES!

The only vehicle I know that has anything to do with Halo 5 is the hype train, so I guess we have that.

Warthogs could definitely crash at pretty decent speeds without straight-up exploding. They are made of a molecularly strengthened titanium.

How about we have flying vehicles that behave properly? As in you control the pitch and yaw with the joysticks. None of this “press A to barrel roll” easy-mode.

Yeah I’d like that.
The flying vehicles are the weirdest vehicles in the game. Mostly in Halo Reach, where the unprotected blades on the sides of the Falcon could ram into things and not break. A bit too unrealistic.

Yeah this, but there is no penalty for crashing in this game. Maybe it just slows you down or breaks your shields because of the sudden stop.

If I know this community, which I do, then droves of fans would instantly be up in arms, pitchforks at the ready, yelling about how a part of Halo was being excised and homogenised, and 343 should burn at the stake, etc etc…
But yeah, I’m with ya. It’d be cool. Particularly agree about the increased speed mixed with crashing. If splattering is going to be a thing at all with Thruster in, we’re going to need a faster car.

I’m pretty sure that the Falcon’s blades were made of heavy-duty metal, but still it’s kind of unrealistic.

There are two changes to the Warthog I’d like to see.

  1. Make the passenger less vulnerable. Seriously, no one wants to ride as a passenger because they always die first, especially since they stick out of the car so much. They should at least make it so that your guy ducks down when he gets hurt.

  2. It probably won’t happen, but I’d like the passenger view to go back to a first person view, like it was in CE.

This I agree with, would make for more fun experience. The passenger has been just that, passenger.
Although I think your point about being less vulnerable as a passenger is a bit of a stretch, I mean the driver is in the seat driving, the gunner is in the turret gunning down obsticles. The passenger has his own weapons and should be able to turn around all the way and shoot at enemies behind and so on, use the lean feature as seen in Battlefield: Hardline.

First-person view in the passenger seat doesn’t really work, though. Go into a game of CE and hop into the passenger seat while someone drives you around. When you’re being driven around, especially over hilly terrain and slopes, the camera just wobbles all over the place so much that it’s totally disorienting and you can’t hit the broad side of a barn if you try to haha. I don’t know if it’s just CE or what, but it just doesn’t feel right.

The passenger seat has always been pretty useless offensively anyway, though, except for in Reach (‘Revy-sniping’, anyone?), so I suppose for a more immersive experience (which seems to be among 343i’s top goals for Halo 5) a first-person view in the passenger seat would be fine.

… If only!!!
No need for proper vehicle mechanics, Reach got the hover and aerials near perfect… Except that Banshee. H4 went a bit too far debuffing the Banshee but it certainly got the non-floating ground based vehicles near right. OK, trade the H4 Goose for the H2A Goose
All I would ask for is a choice to change my PoV when in a vehicle, not the vehicles themselves and the surrealism they offer… Just make sure they feel responsive to their means/roll.
