Halo 3: ODST has gotten some fantastic upgrades to it’s Firefight mode over the past couple years. New weapons such as the Battle Rifle, Assault Rifle, Sentinel Beam, Energy Sword, and Flamethrower.
New vehicles such as the Gauss Hog, Scorpion, AA Wraith, and even the Hornet. The ability to customize skulls and enemy waves just like in Halo: Reach, and new additions like friendly AI and extra weapon spawns to most maps.
We’ve even gotten an entirely new enemy faction in the form of the Flood, and even the addition of Flood-controlled vehicles… something that was NOT in Halo 3.
So the question is… when does Halo: Reach’s Firefight mode get the same treatment? Halo 3: ODST’s Firefight mode now has features that Reach’s doesn’t, like friendly AI and customizable vehicles. I really want to see those features brought over to Reach before 343 stops working on MCC.
Here’s a list of things that could be done to improve Halo: Reach Firefight:
New Enemies
There are 2 enemy types from Campaign that don’t appear in Firefight; Elite Zealots, and Drones. While Drones would take more time and effort to implement, it’s by no means impossible. Elite Zealots, on the other hand, could easily be dropped into the mix with the rest of the Covenant. Speaking of, there would also be some new options to mix Spec Ops Elites with lesser Covenant.
New Enemy Waves
- Drone Patrol - (Drones supported by Grunts)
- Drone Infantry - (Drones supported by Jackals)
- Drone Tactical - (Drones supported by Skirmishers)
- Spec Ops Patrol - (Spec Ops Elites supported by Grunts)
- Spec Ops Infantry - (Spec Ops Elites supported by Jackals)
- Spec Ops Tactical - (Spec Ops Elites supported by Skirmishers)
- Zealot Strike Team - (Elite Zealots supported by Elite Rangers and Grunts)
Drop Pod Customization
This would be a new feature that would allow you you to choose what type of enemies spawn from the Covenant drop pods that spawn when Hazards are turned “on”, and also how often they spawn, how many spawn during a single wave, and what enemies spawn from each drop pod on the map.
Spawn Frequency
- Random (Default)
- Every Wave
- Disabled
Number of Drop Pods
- 1 (Default)
- 2
- 3
- 4
Enemies (Drop Pods 1-4)
- Fuel Rod Grunts
- Elite Ultras
- Elite Rangers
- Elite Spec Ops
- Elite Zealots
- Brute Minors
- Brute Captains
Boons
Boons would work just as they do in Halo 3: ODST, spawning additional weapon crates on the map that contain Assault Rifles, DMRs, Shotguns, Grenade Launchers, and Magnums, as well as friendly AI that can get in vehicles with the player.
Vehicle Sets
Another feature brought over from Halo 3: ODST, this would allow the player to change what vehicles spawn on the map. As Halo: Reach’s Firefight maps can have up to 3 vehicle spawns on maps like Beachhead, there would be 3 different Vehicle Set options, one for each spawns.
Unearthed and Installation 04 would have their vehicle spawns updated as well to make them fully compatible with this addition. Unearthed would get both a Mongoose and static Ghost spawns just like Beachhead, and Installation 04 would see the addition of a static Ghost spawn.
Vehicle Sets (Spawns 1-3)
- Default
- Warthog
- Gauss Warthog
- Rocket Warthog
- Troop Warthog
- Scorpion
- Falcon (Nose Gun)
- Falcon (Grenade Launcher)
- Ghost
