How many of you would be in favor of some sort of Mercy Rule? With 343’s matching system, I read a lot about players in the silver/gold ranks (and even those who are establishing rank) getting matched with diamond and onyx players. To these players this can be very intimidating and not fun at all. Who wants to go into a slayer game, and get beat 10-50?
This is why I bring up the mercy rule. I know several games have implemented some sort of mercy rule, and as far as I know, it works out pretty well. The question though, would be. When should a Mercy rule go into effect in a game?
I will leave this here for you all to ponder on, and leave feedback on. I am very curious to see what the community thinks of something like this.
I’d definitely be in favor of implementing a mercy rule. I’ve been on both sides of that coin way too many times. I’ve seen teams completely destroyed because one or more quit and leave the lone spartan to be hunted down repeatedly. I’ve also been personally guilty of leaving myself when I see someone else has left and the team immediately starts getting wrecked because of it. Yeah I kinda feel bad for leaving, but I also don’t want to have to deal with a 4v2 time and time again.
I think this should only be an option with undermanned teams due to quitting or DC issues.
However I am not in favor of forfeit/Mercy in traditional games. People will start to team forfeit like crazy because they didn’t get a map they liked or whatever.
Lets say someone peaks at Platinum 2 with their buds. I am sure they will all agree that the option to be stuck at Platinum 1 is worth being able to forfeit for petty reasons. Then you will have a decent amount of games that just abruptly end on you. So your 14Kills in a row on a 41 to 23 game will just have to stay that way. No running riot for you.
I think this would cause more harm than good unless they only allowed it on undermanned teams and even then I wouldn’t want to quit a 3v4 Slayer… a 1V4 slayer…yes I would like to be able to quit those. The worst is undermanned Arena with CTF and Stronghold.
i think it would be most effective for a situation where most of your team quits and you do not want to quit. if you’re playing 1v4 it would be nice to be able to forfeit and not have to either take 20 deaths or quit.
There shouldn’t be a “Mercy” rule…BUT there should be a “Forfeit” option available ONLY IFthe teams become unbalanced (player wise) so players don’t have to quit out of the game and get penalized.
No one wants to play an unfair game with uneven teams.
I wouldn’t want it to be spontaneous, if it were ever to be implemented. I would want it to count out as a vote if it unanimous, so to say if a team is going 5-30.
It would be nice to have a forfeit option if you’re the last person left on your team, then you can decide if you can tough it out or just end it right there. I feel like that could be exploited in some way though? I don’t know.
Overall I sort of don’t like the idea of a mercy rule, the more that I think about it. I just don’t like the spirit of it. If it were implemented, I’m pretty sure there would be a lot of people jamming out of matches once they’re behind, or just throw the match if they’re already losing. It’s not that great of an idea for Halo, I think.
I think this idea would be okay, but if I may ask, how else can you expect to move up the rankings to the next level if you aren’t paired against some folks at the next level up on occasion? Seems like the current setup might pair up against higher ranked opponents a bit too often, but I don’t think we should be limiting this too much, or nobody would ever advance.
I agree with all of you. A forfeit vote would be nice. But also, the game should see notice is half of your team left, and not force you to play the rest of the match 2v4. That’s no fun (except for swat lol) . I would also add something like, you are only allowed to forfeit no more than 2 games an hour, or something along those lines
That would have been appreciated in Halo 4 or even Halo 3. Sometimes when my entire team quits. The other team can be -Yoinks!- and literally drag the game out when I just want the game to end
It has been mentioned a lot since TMCC and I think it is a great idea. Smite has a forfeit option and if 90%-95% of the team votes “yes” for the forfeit, the game ends. It truly is a great option. Winning team wins, losing team loses. Maybe it is something they can look into eventually for H5 or H6.
Oh also this option does not even show up in Smite for at least 10 minutes. It would have to be less in Halo but would be a great idea.

Team being spawn killed in a base against a highly one sided team. Or if team mates leave and it is 4 vs 1 Slayer modes or 8 vs 1 in BTB.
Allow this forfeit option to be available after about 4 minutes in 4vs4 modes. Maybe 8 minutes in 8vs8 modes.
Also the forfeit mode would ONLY be available for the losing team.
