Adapting To Controls

So I haven’t touched Halo since Halo 3 on the XB 360. Even then I really didn’t play it much because my 360 Broke on me.
On top of that… PC Gaming took over and I’ve sorta kicked the XB aside for the PCMasterRace Side of Gaming.
I’ve tried playing the MCC on an XB1 in the breakroom at my job… Yes we have an XB1 in there…
With that I’ve kinda forgotten how the controls are on the XB. But, with this game coming over to the PC very soon… I’m hoping that Keyboard and Mouse Mapping will be straight forward like any other game.
So what’s a good way to get back into playing Halo if you haven’t really touched the game in a while?

Personally, I picked up a controller and started playing through the campaigns again solo. It was rough to start because I also migrated to PC and hadn’t used a controller in years. It started to come back to me after I got through CE, but I still don’t feel anywhere near as competent as I was when I only played on Xbox. Playing solo campaign was nice because I didn’t have to worry about letting my team down, or whatever, and could go at my own pace (which was slow!).

I’d be interested to hear what others have to say, as I bet we’re not alone in this PC expat space wanting to get back into Halo again.

If you want to de-rust before MCC on PC there’s a few things you could do:

  • Play through campaign/Firefight on an easier setting until you’re back into the swing of using a controller, which I did briefly. Like Kickimanjaro said, I got to the end of Reach and still didn’t feel as competent, but then again I did that in a couple of days so you might have more luck if you stick at it. - Play Halo CE or 2 on PC. They don’t have all the features of the newer games but the key mapping isn’t that bad and you’ll de-rust while getting used to it with keyboard and mouse. - Probably the least helpful option: wait until games start coming out on PC. If you try to readjust to using a controller and then go back to KBM after a few months, it won’t be useful for very long. Reach is (hopefully) coming out on PC this year, and you’ll have access to it sooner still if you get lucky with the Insider program.I’m in the same boat; I left consoles entirely around 2014 and trying to use them again after 5 years is quite jarring.

I tried Quickplay Multiplayer in my Break Room at work today and was confused with half of the controls LUL
