So after about 50 or so games I’ve come to a conclusion about the beta. First of all I am a Halo Wars 1 veteran player and a Halo Wars Tournament champion. I love the vision of the Developers have in store for this game. The game definitely shows a distinct connection between its predecessor and it’s self. I feel that a lot of the things that used to be exploited in the first one will no longer exist and this game.
As a master of Deathmatch in a formidable standard player I understand that a lot of adjustments will need to be made to both strategies as well as tactics used in the game. From what I seen in the beta if you are a rusher you can say goodbye to the warthogs Rush. If you are a boomer you will have to find the ultimate balance and juggling both the resources. I foresee that micro and macro management of your units will play more of a significant role and Halo Wars 2.
The paper rock scissors formula is only going to help so much in this game. In the first game players could spawn massive amounts of units and literally throw them onto the battlefield hoping to get small victory after small victory leading to a giant victory. And those that mastered individually managing their units always Rose Above the Rest. They always survived. When the dust settled they were the ones with the highest amount of points. They were the ones carrying their team to Victory. So now we’re faced with a new game with a different look it was a different feel but it almost taste the same. No more warthog rushes. No more spawning massive amount of Infantry. No more rushing massive amounts of air hoping to change the tide of battle. Gone are the days Grizzlies beating scorpions and cobras combined.
I highly doubt I’ll see one or two players successfully covering for another player as he upgrades his character and walks around with 2 scarabs dominating the game. Halo Wars 1 was all about time and unit management. Halo Wars 2 it’s going to be about resource management and proper implementation. What are your thoughts?

You are not a veteran. Halo Wars 2 is not a sequel to Halo Wars. It’s a different game that does not deserve to bear the Halo Wars name. It is a disgrace. Call it Morbid Abomination 2000 for all I care. It’s just not Halo Wars! It’s a stolen title. 343 are mindless fools and don’t understand what the word “title” means!
What makes you say I’m not a veteran? My team and I won 1st place 13 times in tournaments and ladders when the game first came out years ago. I stopped playing for awhile due to life circumstances but eventually came back and saw people still playing. So compared to the people I seen in gamestop recently that have never even played the first one, then what would you refer to those who hold the rank of general and have been playing the game religiously for years? Also we have yet to see the full connection between the two, but I’m sure they didn’t call it halo wars 2 for nothing. Right?
GT?

You are not a veteran because you don’t speak of the beauty of the game. I’m not sure if you can look up games played for xbl accounts, but I have far too many. But the rank of general is meaningless as it does not reflect anything about the status of a Halo Wars player other than they have played a lot and have got points to achieve the rank. True skill is what matters and as a halo wars grinder and lover I could decide wether a player is comparable to me or not after 10 secs of playing against him. So seeing general next to his name was meaningless in my decision to turtle, win with a spartan elephant with 13 stars, or try my heart out. The game was extremely well made and was made with sweat and creativity and love. Ensemble made something beautiful because they cared and enjoyed what the did. 343 is making a quick buck. They called it halo wars to to make a profit, a disgusting contrast to the efforts of Ensemble. They are riding the title into the ground where they reside as pustulant scum.

The beta is not bad, the only annoying things I can think of is the aspect that power is a resource and the control layouts.
The new commander skills are dope as -Yoink- as the pelican gunships are so powerful and rewarding to use. I remember I had ambushed a guys army at his base and it went from 30+ separate units down to a single tank
Nice post. I can agree with most of it. Hw1 was too much spam one unit and win (usually hogs, tanks, banshees, sometimes hunters to beat vehicles.)
To the poster who wrote “general rank mean nothing and true skill means everything:” you don’t speak for everyone. It is your ignorant opinion. I never cared for true skill in hw1 because the metagame literally catered to rushers. I hit a true skill of 40s only because of covy leader rush and hog rush. It was broke. So far, hw2 has far less of that, I’m happy to see it.
I agree with OP this game will be more strategy and tactics I’ve played about 50 60 games so far and my problem is that everyone sucks I’ve had maybe 1 almost competitive match Idk if it’s cuz people aren’t use to RTS games or what
As fun as hw1 was i have to agree it was really dumbed down and most games came down to simple unit spam, with some support units thrown in the mix. Hw2 does a really nice job of making you focus on the rock-paper-scissor mechanic, as it should be.

But wait… Why does it say halo wars 2 if it isn’t a sequel then? Argue against that!

To be perfectly honest rank mattered very very little and True Skill was indeed everything in measuring a player. The metagame catered to early aggression, not necessarily rushing. Rushing implies only one player is participating, which isn’t the metagame and would explain why you were a bored. Someone with a True Skill rank more similar to your own at the height of your game would have been able to handle the early aggression.
And part of me doubts the OP on his self-declared veterancy. Grizzly’s defeating scorpions and cobras? That should never happen unless you had a distinct numbers advantage. Power Turret scorpions are actually stronger than Grizzly tanks if you micro them at all, throwing in the cobra on top would ensure that they would win. And there is no such thing as a warthog rush at the highest level of gameplay for Halo Wars, that is just how the game is played at that level. The difference would be that a pro wouldn’t normally commit 100% to warthogs because eventually they’d be countered and he’d lose. Maybe I’m wrong but what you are saying does not sound like something a top ranked player would say.

“I don’t like this game or agree with your opinion, therefore, I’m going to name call and disregard your well thought out and CONSTRUCTIVE opinion.”
Seriously? You literally sound like a 5 Star Crybaby with that attitude. Instead of posting with such an immature and disparaging attitude, write something that is actually worth reading. It’s a beta for the reason of constructive feedback, not as a forum for meaninglessly insulting others because you don’t like the game. How about writing how it could be better instead?

Psshh I don’t know I was a pretty decent Brute Chieftain I wouldn’t say pro, but I had a pretty high true skill, and played when I had time and while I agree with the term early aggression over rush, I don’t know about Warthog Rush not being a thing at high level… Anders Warthog rush was always an instant win button, at any level of the game. When you can pump 5 turret warthogs out at the beginning of the game 3 minutes in and take complete map control and then switch into air right after and dominate why wouldn’t you do that at any level. I have seen guys way higher rank than me play and win with Warthog Rush. The only thing that would keep that from higher skilled games is respect…

I agree. I had a swarm of UNSC flying vehicles and some ground troops, usually a couple anti-infantry and or marines, just reqing them. So they countered with Anti-air. But! As some of my troops started to die, it gave me enough space to unleash the ability where I can summon tanks and ODST from the sky which annihilated his Anti-air and helped me win the game in the end. Just an example of how, although they had paper to my rock. I had rock with scissors on it. :3

Yeah I agree what I said was a little silly now, I guess my brain was choosing to remember oddly if I thought high level players abstained from full out warthog rushes

Is this a new unit in the beta? I haven’t seen it yet. What building do I train it from?
So sorry to do this but I’m on one I guess. I tried to be humble and cool and jerk wanna get on my post and challenge me. So I private messaged a couple of them for solutions. Check this out:
- Futbol Luva said our win% was close and he doubted my veterancy. I said let’s go to halowars.com and check stats. He only played standard and has a total of 700 games (I take into account the stat wipe) his win percentage is barely 43%! - Now look me up. You’ll see over 1000 games (easily 2000 if I include the wipe) and my standard win percentage is 86%. My deathmatch is 97%. - I mastered unsc and only use covenant when I wanna support others or experiment. - I’ve got countless skirmish games where I practiced over and over and learned enough techniques to dominate online, only to be challenged by someone that’s losEs one out of 2 matches consistently?! - And You Vermin…he’s just a passionate guy that is disappointed in the beta and didn’t like that I didn’t get all emotional like him with my post and express myself like an adolescent female. Bwahaha. I told him where to direct his anger even though his temper tantrum made no sense and I shouldn’t have been a target. There are other blog pages for that. - But if anyone feels the need to look me up by all means. If you have some constructive criticism or open minded ideas to pitch on the original topic I posted then they are welcome. Let’s get the thoughts going back positive and exchange some good ideas. No more disrespect on my post please
Wew, lad.
Jimmies are rustled.
