Actual Game Feedback Thread

Thread for discussions about actual gameplay, in game tech issues, and other things unrelated to actually getting the Beta downloaded/working.

Can we “sticky” this topic up top and have people drop comments so we don’t have a million threads going?

Initial thoughts: I have been playing since Halo CE came out for what that’s worth.

I was a little turned off at first by the lack of some classic weapons (covenant carbine, laser, railgun, DMR) but am finding the current selection really well balanced, at least against bots. The pistol feels a little weak compared to the past but I think that’s appropriate given the BR and commandos strength. So with all that said, people are probably going to start lining up to complain about “we need weapon X back!” or “we need OG pistol, this trash isn’t Halo!” Ignore them! Keep the game balanced. Don’t let an overly vocal minority ruin the game by causing the team to go back and endlessly tinker with weapons, drops, DPS, etc. Then endless tinkering ruined Halo 5.

Other thoughts:
Good riddance to charge and boost. Missed it at first but the absence of it recaptures a more classic Halo feel and less of a twitch shooter feel.

What the hell is up with the needlers sound? This is a miss. The thing used to sound like it WAS needling someone. Sci fi death machine. Now it sounds like a hyperactive pneumatic pistol.

Speaking of misses, please tell me “The Announcer” is absent from training mode but present in multiplayer. Hearing that guy say “Killing Spree” is essential Halo. Leaving him out is a borderline public relations failure. If I can communicate only one thing during this beta that needs to be “fixed” it’s the absence of the announcer. The British guy doesn’t cut it. Feels very Destiny, which, personally I think you all should try to avoid feeling like that game in every way.

Those are mostly negative. Overall, I’m pretty impressed and it really feels like “classic” Halo but without being dated. Look forward to human opponents and posting more feedback.

The announcer is present even in training mode at least for me he is… You may have a setting with it disabled. If not it may be that the announcer doesn’t in fact commentate on as many things in game as he used to. But the kill feed commentary is 100% there I can confirm.

Thanks for the heads up. I’ll see if I can find a way to switch him on.

Does anyone notice the slight visual bug (green screen) when backing out of the settings menu? Or is this just me?

The announcer is on. I guess he’s just silent on training mode.

To the above poster, yes, I get green screen all the time.

The radar does not seem functional to me.
Honestly if they are not going to have a proper radar just get rid of it entirely.

I can’t be the only person who is annoyed the reticule/crosshair does not turn red while aiming at people. I know that its different for each weapon and while out of range it will go white, but It’s been in every game and even in training mode. Maybe this was cleared up in another post but i havent seen anyone bring this up.

Some tech issues I have with the game:

-Borderless doesn’t cut it. We need real full screen, full stop. I hope this is planned for the full release.

-I’ve had multiple instances of my weapon not shooting. Maybe related to the above because minimizing the game and maximizing fixed it every time. I thought my mouse was going bad at first but it’s a game issue.

-Multiple instances of failed hit registration. Just flat out not getting hit markers for a second or two. Probably a network thing because when it happens it’s happening all match long, however it does seem to happen with the commando more than any other weapon IME.

-A lot of reports of poor PC performance. Afterburner seems to cause issues (Riva tuner specifically)

QOL stuff

-I really don’t like the rotating power weapon thing. The map should have set power ups. It shouldn’t change. If there’s a shotgun or an OS or whatever on that map, it should be the same every time. Being unsure of the starting strategy because you dont know what is going to spawn is just bad Halo IMO. Make it consistent.

Same and I’m on console, sometimes the weapon isn’t registering or there is a delay before use. Also the same for the melee option sometimes it just does the melee and other times it will lung or strike someone with force.

Yeah I’ve noticed the melee lunge seems pretty inconsistent at times as well but I didn’t know if it was just me.

The only map where the power weapons rotate is the training ground. The bazaar consistently has rockets and the factory (not actual name) consistently has the hammer.

The overshield/camo rotate but honestly who cares? Outside of doubles play I don’t feel like PU’s swing games.

That said, the minor weapons like the commando/br and the shotgun/wannabe scattershot do rotate every time. I agree that is annoying. I don’t consider the commando and br interchangeable. Even more so the wannabe scattershot. That thing is useless. It’s interesting that the covenant weapons don’t. I wish they would, because on the whole I’m finding them very underwhelming. The needler is about as useful as the Halo 2 version. IMO if you’re caught in the open against a needler and the person has even moderate aiming skills they should be dead. The revamped pulse rifle also fails to track in most instances, I’d rather have full auto.

Agreed on the melee lunges. My character never once lunged.

The red reticule does need brought back. Important when you’re in a jam and have to no-scope.

Also, did I miss the service record or do they just not have one? I hope the intent isn’t to have to check Waypoint every time.

Speaking of melee, there is also the instance of an almost instantaneous double melee when you melee, reload then melee all in about half a second.
Note: You have to see the weapon start going into a reload animation for this to work. Also I have noticed many instances where my weapon reloads twice for no reason.

Recant my previous statements. Nothing about this is balanced.
