Ok I’ve been thinking this through to the smallest of details and I just don’t get it. What so special about it? Just think about it. Your so pumped up to get it and when you do get it you just look at it like “meh no biggy” or “ill just wear it just to show it off.” the armor really isn’t that special Its just looks like a spartan a actual spartan. But just think why would they add it. Is it a rouse to get people to continuously play or are they just doing it to replace clans. If you couldn’t tell i’m a thinker and I love figuring things out but I just keep ending in a deadend. Nothing makes sense. It’s almost random but at the same time it does make sense. Spartans are brutes and fight, so the kill commendations makes sense but the armor… If you look at the Master Chief/John 117 and the Spartans in wars(sorry I didn’t play it) they represent the Roman Royal Couriers/warriors. Through most of campaigns your transferring info in and artifacts. The Roman Royal Couriers/warriors do the exact same thing. I’ve looked at all the armors in halo and most of them are a “hey i’m passive but I’m not afraid to fight” while others take a more aggressive look to it which would represents the warriors. Looking at the Achilles makes me really think and I cant think of. Its a spartan. Its simple but this is what really makes me think. Why doesn’t anyone else have this armor? Whats the purpose of this armor? Is something hidden? I’d like to have some extra opinions.
It’s the only “trophy” in the game outside of achievements. Therefore people want the trophy to show their grind.
I could be wrong but it has nothing to do with any sort of Halo 5 lore

you mean by how much grinding they do? agreed XD. sorry It just doesn’t make sense. whats the symbolism? is the halo franchise meant to fall like the Spartans?

I think it was meant as a nod to the Halo 3 Recon helmet to bring some nostalgia to the nostalgia seekers wanting something similar to Halo 3
I doubt it has anything to do with the “fall” of Halo but sometimes people want more than an achievement for their work.

I may be over thinking but what if halo is meant to fail? What if 343 is cooking something up that only they can see. its easy to see that they know what there doing
What do you have to do to get it?

I think you are getting a little too much into the tin foil hat scenario there. They have Halo Wars 2 coming out and Halo 6 in beginning of development I don’t think they are booting it in the next few years at least. Of course some in this forum will argue that it is already dead because Halo 5 did X, Y or Z. Point being who knows, they might not even know but Halo will be around for another few years at least.

Join a clan. Have that clan play for a few months.

I’ll agree I probably should’ve mentioned that.
I’ve always had a fascination with Greek and Roman culture/mythos. So it appeals to me. Different strokes for different folks.
Uh… I think you hit on why it exists somewhere in the middle, there. 343 Industries created this armor specifically to offer a nice reward for those that use their Spartan Company implementation. Rather… I think Achilles would be in the game by now whether or not they had added Spartan Companies also. It’s one of the few armor variants you can identify from a distance on sight, and it is kinda nifty. Likely its distinctive appearance is precisely why they chose it to be the nigh unobtainable one – if they had chosen, say, Challenger or Viper, I don’t think most people that presently vie for it would be so invested.
If you’re talking about lore (and don’t know what you mean about Roman Royal Couriers/warriors and passive/aggressive looks), I would advise you not to put much stock in the significance of armor variants. We’ve had MJOLNIR armor variants since Halo 3, and they have never proven significant in any Halo story yet. There is a distinct possibility that 343 Industries will simply not create an Achilles variant for Halo 6.

The helmet is my favorite in the game. Armor itself is meh.

Ah, sorry. It was that “what’s the purpose of this armor” that threw me.

So is the armour set in the “THE SUM IS GREATER THAN THE PARTS” commendation reward REQ pack? “Complete all 5 levels of the kill commendations”?

The armor is for being with a company/clan when they complete level 3 off all the kill commendations. The Helmet is for when they get level 5 completed.
I would LOVE for them to make Achilles a paid DLC option. I would gladly pay $5 for it, just to laugh at the people that grinded for it.

Well if I log on one night and there are only 300 of us playing I would officially categorize it as fallen. Hopefully that never happens.
