I am still a little confused on how the Spartan Companies work. Firstly, If you find a company that you want to join and they already have a lot of stats, once you join, does all your progress contribute to that company? Secondly, If you join a company and they already have the Achilles ARMOR, would you still be able to get the Achilles helmet if you joined after they have unlocked the armor? Everything else I understand like the Request to join, the message sending, to service record and all that jazz. But I still just need to clear things up with just these 2 topics. Thank you.

Just to go into a little more details.
No, your prior commendations do not add to what the company has. Every kill you get while in the company will add to the current stat.
Yes, you have to be a member of the company when the armor is unlocked, joining after would make it impossible to get the piece you missed unless you joined another one and earn it.
