Wearing Achilles has really changed the way people treat me online, some ways good, some bad. Lots of people want to play with me now. But there are several times people trash talk me during or after the match too. Recently I’ve been playing a lot of breakout and my own teammates have been betraying me or just trolling me in general. Shooting at me and whatnot. Idk. Maybe it’s just what the cool kids do in breakout now. Anyone else with Achilles noticed any of these things? It almost makes it not even work it to wear the armor. Thoughts??
I’m sorry you had to go through something like that. It makes me fear for my clan when we do accomplish Achilles .

Don’t get me wrong. The armor is dope. I just feel like there are a lot of haters out there.
I’ve never really noticed anyone treating my different for wearing Achilles and I’ve had it on for the past year or so. I know there are a lot of people out there who stereotype Achilles players, but I’ve never actually had anyone go out of their way to kill me or anything like that.

The issue with the Achilles armor set these days is really the stigma of its obtainment. As we all know, what sets the Achilles apart from all the other armor sets is that instead of receiving it through random chance req openings, you have to complete all the Spartan Company kill commendations to get it. 343 implemented that with the best of intentions, and its means of obtainment have been lauded by the community. However, we simply can’t avoid noting the elephant in the room: Achilles farmers. Before the fireteam limit in Warzone was reduced to six players, twelve-man teams would take to Warzone and farm the hell out of everyone, ruining the fun of the game just to quickly fill out the commendations. Even now, if you go to the front page of the Spartan Company lists, there are DOZENS of Companies that exist only to grind for the Achilles: the so-aptly titled REDACTED and REDACTED companies. It’s a real shame, how one of the coolest armor sets in the game ended up with such a terrible reputation all because of the rampant tryhard scum.

Pretty sure that happens no matter what armour someone is wearing. I have 1 friend that does this to me all the time because he think’s it’s funny, I’m not even wearing Achiles but I doubt people are doing it just because of an armour type, people generally just like to mess around…lost track of how many times team-mates have spammed ground pound, spartan charge to try kill our own team members.
I mean you for sure it happened beforehand, I’m just saying it noticably happens more now. I’ve got the messages in my inbox to prove it haha.

I know what you mean. I want to find a Spartan company that is in it just to play the game. The ones I’ve been in always wanted everyone to play specific playlists and and whatnot. Tbh most of the people in my company aren’t active anymore. Maybe that will change after the rest of the company catches up and gets the armor. I do like the allure of the armor though. The fact that you can’t just get it from a req pack makes it more desirable. It reminds me of Halo 3 and Reach where you had to get certain achievements to unlock certain armor.

This right here. I have been wearing the helmet almost exclusively for over a year, and have had one message regarding my performance and the helmet. Maybe it’s the playlist or you’re just hypersensitive about how players act toward you. But I’ve really had no issue.

Or maybe your just better than me haha. Maybe when people play better than me they feel like I don’t deserve it or something. As I’ve said before too, it still happened before. Just more now.
Achilles is probably the most notorious armor set in Halo 5 in regards to its acquirement and visage. I’d personally love to have it, but it wouldn’t suit me very well in the long run. I prefer Recon GEN1 or Deadeye in most circumstances.
But if I ever get the helmet (and wore it) one day, I’d prefer to come off as a “gentle giant” rather than another fearsome menace that many have seen countless times. Doubt my message will get through, however…

That’s an interesting take on it. I definitely like the older armor sets, I’ve been playing from the very beginning. How do you pick your armor, just off of looks?
People probably think you obtained it by boosting, since that seems to be the method a lot of people obtained it.

The stigma against it is still around from how the first few companies attained it. I personally dont care what armor someone wears or how they got it, just telling you why its happening.

I got you, I appreciate it. I didn’t realize why there was such a stigma on this armor.

Thanks brudda. Seems like a few bad apples spoiled the bunch. I didn’t realize why it was happening.

While I only have two armor combinations, I try to match helmets with armors that share very similar characteristics with each other.
One of my more famous setups is the Deadeye helmet + Achilles armor. The Deadeye has many traits similar to the Achilles helmet as they both have aggressive styling, long and skinny profiles, and sharp edges. On these grounds, Deadeye is probably the best substitute for the Achilles helmet, not to mention that it’s a much easier to obtain the former.
When the Classic Helmets came out, many paired the helmets with the Memories of Reach sets. However, I decided to go the Halo 3 route and I paired Recon GEN1 with the Mark VI Satrap armor to salute the Recon’s origins. While the helmet has the UA upgrade, the chest and shoulders are that of the default Mark VI, and that the all-important space diaper is missing, it’s practically perfect. The side striping on the helmt complements the asymmetrical decal on the Satrap’s chest, and it’s one of the few Classic Helmets that work almost perfectly with the Mark VI armor, namely Mark V Delta, CQB, EOD, and EVA GEN1. The others seem really strange.
Maybe it’s because I’ve had Achilles for so long, but I haven’t noticed people betraying me or anything because I have Achilles. I feel like they’ve always betrayed me anyway.

I would say this is probably true about some of the people still attached to those companies but I haven’t heard or seen anything in awhile.
It has been out plenty long enough for people to have achieved it without farming. I personally got it with farming with an extremely active company (i played with the leaders and farming was not encouraged). I started a new company and we are now roughly halfway to the armor again. The stigma will probably never go away though
