Achievement Support After Initial Release

I am not much of an Achievement Hunter these days, but the one thing I like about the Great of War series is that during seasonal updates they also get additional Achievements in Multiplayer and sometimes single player modes. I would love to see Halo Infinite get this type of support. I was kinda disappointed that Halo 5 didn’t really see this (I think it got 2 or 3 additional achievements). What made me think about this was looking over the Matchmaking specific Achievements in the MCC.

Halo 5 got 23 additional achievements, not 2 or 3.
Most AAA games have 50 at launch, generally not higher unless it’s a collection game like MCC.
Halo 5 started with 50, now has 73.

As for seasonal achievements, I’m a bit 50/50 on that to be honest. As a huge achievement guy (all 700 in MCC, over 150,000G etc) I can say I’m always down for more achievements but with that being said I’d rather them be something actual of value.

With Halo Infinite supposedly being supported for years and years to come that’s a lot of additional achievements to get added over time, not to mention most of them would be multiplayer related which not a lot of people are a fan of multiplayer related achievements as they’re a lot more luck oriented at times, Halo Reach & Halo 4 being prime examples of exactly how to not do multiplayer achievements.

I can definitely see some achievements being added with single player but every few months with a multiplayer season seems a bit over the top to me.

I would say MP achievements aren’t inherently a bad idea depending on how grindy or unrealistic they were, like in MCC where you need to get 100 kills using the ice in H2A, the achievements like win X amount of games or get X amount of killing sprees just stuff you would generally be doing anyways isn’t bad. I’m hoping they have unlocks tied to getting all the achievements.

Halo 5 started with 65 achievements, and got an additional 8 achievements with the addition of Score Attack and WarZone Firefight in June 2016.

The rule about 50 achievements was as a cap in the 360 era. I cannot remember the last game I played that had 50 achievements out of the box. The closest would be Red Dead Redemption 2 with 51.

With the exception of GoW5 and Forza Horizon, I don’t see many games getting updates that are tied to Title Updates. Any “Games as a Service” games seem to stay with the base achievements. However, with the 2 examples being MS games, there is a possibility that Halo Infinite will have Title Update achievements. Time will tell.

My bad on the low number…could have actually looked into before hitting the submit button.

That hanging ice achievement definitely crossed the line from “challenging” to “pointlessly grindy”. The achievement would have been fine at 5 kills, or even just a single one honestly. Took me about 2 weeks of ONLY trying to get that achievement to actually get it.

Yeah had to boot up swat and hope that map came up for a chance at getting 1 MAYBE 2 kills with the ice a game, worst MP achievement in the game in my opinion.

I really think that added achievements do more for a games longevity than some devs realise. Without having much knowledge of how it works, it seems like such an easy think to implement when doing a TU or DLC, I think devs should always do it. There are always people who will play if there are achievements to obtain. I myself will decide whether to go back to a game depending on added achievements. Halo doesn’t get that treatment because I play it no matter what, but there will be others that will feel like the former.

Yup, everything.
Went back to Halo 5 and did LASO there too just because haha

I hate to say this but because were only purchasing the Campaign for Halo Infinite for Launch, I am almost believing right now that the Multiplayer is not going to have any achievements at all because since the multiplayer is free to play and the way you progress is by doing challenges, I believe this is replacing the achievement system for this part of the game instead, whereas the Campaign will have achievements added to this only. I think 343 finally got the idea because of how much people hated multiplayer achievements in Halo in general (the easy ones were OK but when it came to a specific online mode or map to play on, or doing some kind of specific objective or grinding out for something, everyone really did not like these achievements and I think these serves as people not focusing on play the game where they are really playing for the achievements, which 343 probably does not want and they probably are moving away for this in multiplayer since they want people to just play the game. In Campaign this is Ok, because you can mess around on this as much as you want but on multiplayer, its much more confined on what you can do in this environment like going idling for example. Since the multiplayer is going to grow over time, challenges getting recycled for new ones is probably the way to go now and for you to just focus on your account progression instead which adding achievements making sure they unlock is already a big enough headache for any company to deal with to make sure they work and communicate with the Xbox Live Infrastructure. Doing this for Campaign is easier because they don’t necessary have to do achievements every season, they will stay in a static list most likely until the next campaign pack drops for us to play (the 10 year plan of this game/platform being supported with new campaigns in the Infinite game) with more achievements for that. But as I said for multiplayer already, I think they will be sticking to challenges for this only, that is what were already doing in Halo MCC every week now. However Campaign will probably get Challenges too beyond the achievement list but I think it will just be a static list that won’t get added to until the next campaign comes along later on.

Also, achievement will be rewarded directly in game with a cosmetic without a steam achievement or Xbox G score.
