I was playing Halo 4 today on the community made maps playlist, and I was picked up the scattershot because I’m working on the forerunner commendations. After I got six kills with it the “Ashes to Ashes” achievement popped up, which is a Majestic or Castle map pack achievement. This would be normal but for the fact I have not bought any DLC for Halo 4. Does anyone have an idea of what happened, this is one of the weirder things that has happened to me so far in my Halo 4 experience (though I don’t mind the 10 gamerscore :D)
That’s pretty odd. Was it a reconstruction/rearraged map of Outcast, Daybreak, or Perdition. Wouldn’t be surprised if someone change the spawns, ords, etc. around.
Forge Island seems to be the place for getting those paid achievements for free, since I got a Castle one yesterday even though I never got any of the map packs; this was while King of the Hilling in Community Forge Island. Surprised me when it happened, too - I wasn’t ready for something like that to up and randomly happen.
Yes, “Ashes to Ashes” is a CASTLE DLC achievement.
Many of the DLC achievements as of now, can be unlocked in the Forge playlist. They are very glitchy, anyone remember the Crimson acheevos?
This has happened to a lot of people (including me) in Halo: Reach too lol.

As far as I know, it is just the Castle DLC achievements.

I’m not sure. I wonder if you set it up in custom games, would you be able to get some of the achievements?

As of now, Bird of Prey which was added with the Majestic DLC is the only multiplayer achievement earnable in custom games.
Although, it was probably a mistake.
