accuracy calculation

So I’m having a discussion with a person at work about how accuracy is
calculated. I showed him that I got 86.9% accuracy in Shotty Snipes, and he
wasn’t impressed because “with a shotgun, if one single pellet hits, it’s
calculated as a hit” but the issue is. I’ve been backfill before in the last
30 or so seconds of a game, and still got a very accurate percentage number,
so my theory is that if a single shotgun blast shoots 10 pellets, it
calculates each pellet individually.
Has anyone tested various guns and their effect on accuracy? Because I’m
also curious about the Rocket Launcher. If you shoot the ground, but the
blast hurts an enemy, does it count as a hit, or a miss?

Not my pair of shoes topic but I believe some weapons need to be better defined as to what we count as a legitimate hit. Weapons shooting damaging clouds is something else than sniper rifles, which is something else than a rocket launcher or a flamethrower. Some weapons ought not to be thrown in the same bag as others.
