Not sure why, but I’ve been running into the AC “glitch” a lot more on Big Team and CTF lately - like every five games or so. I don’t remember it being that frequent before. Anyone else seeing the same thing?
BTW, for those who don’t know what it is, here’s a couple of clips to show. The random blue dots don’t appear on the motion tracker. It behaves like the Elites in campaign/spartan ops where you get nothing if he’s still, a single blue dot if he’s crouched and moving, and a red dot if he’s standing and moving:
Big Team on Vortex 1
Big Team on Vortex 2
I’m pretty sure that means they have the Stealth package on.
I believe this glitch occurs when the player is standing completely still when AC is engaged. This has been a complaint since launch, so either 343i has no intention of fixing it or just considers it a “feature.”
> I’m pretty sure that means they have the Stealth package on.
Actually it’s not. This is a legitimate “glitch”(yes I know I just used legit to describe a word I put in quotes), at least to us players who agree how AC should actually work. Like Vektor0 said though, we have seen no acknowledgment for or against from 343i on the issue.
The Stealth package is described and only used to quiet a players steps to make them less detectable audibly, make assassination animations faster, and help make a player less detectable to Promothean Vision users by making them invisible behind walls.
In answer to your question Cabo0se, I will say I played a couple of Team Slayer matches yesterday and did notice quite a few players using this. It is one of the more frustrating aspects of this game. It is one of the reasons I am sticking with Proving Ground, even with the low population and the rampant quitting. It is much better than dealing with aspects of the game like AC kids. I mean really? Not only are you using AC, but you use it in a way to be absolutely undetectable? I just don’t get it. I find too that most of the time those kids are not good in a straight up battle, hence the use of AC and the glitch.
I’ve never seen it in 4v4 . . . and I’ve probably got 2000 matches of 4v4 played. I’ve only ever seen it in BTB and CTF, and then only sporadically. So I’m not sure that it can be “engaged at will” at any time by any player. And if it’s range-related (i.e., you have to be really far from everyone when you engage AC), then perhaps some or all of the 4v4 maps are too small for it to work.
I’ve tried to test the various theories about how it works, and have yet to be successful doing it on demand. Things I’ve tried:
-
Crouching, remaining still, then engaging AC. <–unsuccessful
-
Standing, remaining still, engaging AC, then crouching. <–unsuccessful
-
Engaging AC while standing, then crouching and holding still. <–unsuccessful
The only thing I could think of is maybe one of the above (probably #1) does actually work, but it only works if you are outside the motion tracker range and field of view of all other players (including your own team) when you do it. It certainly can’t just be outside the range of enemies, as I’ve done that unsuccessfully. That’s a theory, not successfully tested.
I gave up trying to figure out how it worked months ago because I don’t use AC anyway (I love the thruster pack). I didn’t notice it too much until recently, which made me wonder if some players had started figuring out how to do it on demand.

Well then you are very lucky my friend. I played a ton of Team Slayer before Proving Ground, and I ran into it a lot. So I don’t think it is map size contingent, or even proximity for that matter.
I had a game I specifically remember, because I noticed how the AC user did not implement this glitch until he was losing and getting cornered on the top gold lift of Abandon. I was closing in on him from purple trees, had him on my radar, he was sprinting to top lift and as soon as he got around the corner he disappeared. I didn’t rush in and noticed the single blue blip on my sensor. It really stuck out in my mind since he hadn’t used it until that point.
Anyway, my point to all this is it is not just a BTB problem. It is a universal game problem. That will more than likely never be changed, and all we can do is hope it doesn’t make a comeback for the next Halo.
I have no idea what makes it work for some and not others. I haven’t really looked into how to use it, since like you, I am a Thruster fan. I sure do miss it in PG.
I have noticed this glitch. I think it has to do with that persons internet connection.
