Hitman: Absolution was a pretty big departure from Blood Money. New information from Square Enix suggests that Hitman 6 will be a “return to roots” for the series. Absolution sold out to the masses in several aspects; it had a dumbed-down mission structure and the casual-friendly “instinct” mechanic. However, Square has acknowledged that the core fanbase are the ones that really matter to the long-term health of the franchise.
I think 343i could learn a big lesson from Square here: Make a fun, high-quality game and don’t jump on the bandwagon.
I thought that was what they were doing with the whole scrapping loadouts and perks thing…

It’s a start. There’s still sprint, ADS (which decreases spread), high bullet magnetism, slow base movement speed (which weakens strafing), too-large map design, reduced shield strength, etc.
Halo 4’s loadouts, killstreaks, and perks wouldn’t have been removed were it not for the massive fan backlash.

Sprint - Depends on whether you like it as a mechanic/ whether or not it interfers with what you consider to be “pure” Halo gameplay.
Smart Scope - aesthetic overhaul. The spread buffs need to be adjusted so that you’re only using it in the same situations that you would use Zoom for (i.e, range)
The last four are all a matter of just needing good sandbox and level design.
And personally, I think that the reason they put in loadouts etc was because they wanted to bring Halo forward into modern trends, but it got so late on in developed they kind of had to just throw something together and hope it worked. That’s my personal reasoning for things like custom games options being broken. It just took them that long to start building it because they weren’t sure what they wanted to do.
They did learn their lesson, and they romoves loadouts and ordinance. But they are also going to bring a freshness to the franchise at the same time. Halo 5 in my opinion is great

Sprint isn’t “just” a mechanic. It warps the whole game around it. It affects map design, kill times, auto-aim and magnetism, the weapon sandbox, and movement. Everything wrong with Halo 5 is a symptom of the disease that is sprint.
You’re right about that last part. 343i didn’t know what to do with Halo 4. That’s because they don’t understand what Halo is.

Again, I’m glad that perks and killstreaks are gone. However, 343i isn’t just freshening up Halo. They’re reinventing it. It’s a hybrid twitch-arena shooter with a large focus on mobility, which encourages defensive gameplay.
I’m glad you like Halo 5. It may indeed be a great game. However, it isn’t a great Halo game.

That’s my point. You either like what it does as a gameplay element and how it functions as part of the greater sandbox, or you don’t. Some people have a vision of Halo that Sprint can be a positive part of, like me. And there are others that don’t. And that’s fair enough.
The master chief collection. That’s there. This may be the best halo so far. Sprint isn’t a disease, it’s a mechanic. Halo 2 anniversary decreases spread on battle rifle when you zoom in. Halo 3 does it too I think. Sprint feels good.
OP is right on all accounts quit trying to argue otherwise, regarding sprint mechanic; like OP said is a disease & has been around too long now; when will devs finally cure it?!?

I hope you’re right. It doesn’t look like sprint is going away, but it looks like 343i is trying to mitigate its negative effects. This mechanic is so infuriatingly divisive. If sprint can be balanced in a Halo game, I’d be happy to play it.
