yeah I agree it’s unbelievable how 343 thinks it’s ok to -Yoink!- on fans. I can’t see why they’ve done it
Thanks for leaving the comment though and hopefully 343 can stop being d!cks about this

So in theory. I bought a blank disc. Money back please
best of luck. I just knew Infinite would shaft fans in some way and it appears to be doing so across the board with other aspects too.
There’s been a few conspiracy posts here. It’s infuriating for one simple reason: The focus on a grand and unified plan distracts from the more tangible and immediate reasons why this has happened. I see talk about “the great reset” get mangled and diluted into completely useless garbage. If something is vague and undefined then it’s hard to push against it. Please keep the discussion focused on the specifics and the details we can put names to.
I don’t want to talk about it beyond this because I want to talk about the subject of the thread. I’m mad because every single wrong detail amounts to misinformation. Games As A Service (GaaS), online-only DRM, overreaching DRM, game preservation, barriers to entry, and reliable internet access. Those are words for concepts that this thread is about. Don’t make this about government overreach and collusion if those things are not relevant!
This topic is tricky to tackle. There’s many ways to play this game. I personally own Halo: Infinite on Steam but have not yet bought the campaign. I want to come up with a complete and confirm list of issues but I need to straighten some things out first.
Halo Infinite gamemodes that could work offline:
Separate parts of Halo Infinite:
Platforms:
Unless I missed something that’s 10 separate ways to play Halo: Infinite offline. That’s a lot! I’d like to confirm the situation for every combination but here’s what I know right now.
I was going to edit this to include more combinations but when re-reading this thread it’s hard for me to say. The Xbox doesn’t seem to allow offline play of a digital purchase of Halo: Infinite’s campaign but there is someone who said that they still could. Which is weird.
I think part of why this is happening is that the campaign is a DLC while the main game is free.
on xbox because of validation the digital campaign cannot be played offline whereas the physical disc itself acts as verification. It’s been commented on here that the check is every 24 hours I guess since the time it was last validated
There’s a problem with that though. There’s two people saying that they can’t play Halo: Infinite’s campaign while offline after they purchased it directly. There’s also at least one person saying that they could play the game and they did the same thing. There’s no one saying that they used the disk to play offline. I actually can’t use this thread to draw any more conclusions.
oh I see, that’s nice
It just means I need to ask elsewhere. I do want to fill out this list if only to establish a record. I did the first half of wrapping my head around it at least. If I ever figure it all out I’ll update my post but I expect the game to have some big update that messes the core idea up before I do.
This thread will act as one means to voice the issue of not being able to play offline with the digital xbox one version and will remain until 343 changes it. Those that are experiencing the same issue will hopefully find themselves here to report this but in all likelihood most people outside of reading the thread wont even be aware to it. As an issue however it most certainly does exist
It seems you Xbox players keep on getting screwed. I bought Infinite on Steam, and the campaign works just fine offline. Also, screw paying monthly fees for XB live
. It’s something that imo should be included in the price of the game.
The main issue that he refers to is that it’s impossible to play the campaign on a device that is completely offline. When it comes to Steam, it’s in fact impossible to every purchase or download the game offline. For Xbox, the requirement is instead such that some form of verification must be done before the campaign can be played and this verification do unfortunately require an internet connection which in turn means that it’s impossible to play the campaign on an offline console if you do manage to get the disc copy of the game.
A better solution would have been that it would be possible to play the campaign as long as you have the disc independently on if it is before or after the official release date of the game.
@CuriousGalaxy81
Ahh I see what you mean now. For better or worse (really just worse) in this day and age, games rely on downloads to update them to fix the myriad of issues they are released with. I’m just glad I can play H:I campaign when I have no internet access for weeks on end.
So I put in a ticket to see if they would fix it and they didn’t plus they just out right said yeah it’s just a license no game
Surprised they got back if it’s to say that. Really doesn’t put 343 in a positive light
Thanks for getting back
I know this is probably old, but you can play Campaign offline. I’m currently doing so now on my Series S, idk when they made that change.
I really think it depends on what version you have. Do you have the disk, did you buy it directly from the online store, or do you have the Game Pass? A change would be nice to see but I need to know how you own the game in order to use the info.
I bought it online. Disconnected everything to see if my series S will run the Campaign offline as i’m planning a roadtrip soon using my G-Story Monitor and to my amaze it works !
Cool. I’m glad to hear it.
I don’t want to be a downer but there may be a record of the last time the console was connected to the internet and that record might be used to lock out content after a pre-defined period offline. It likely has an internal battery to keep a clock ticking. Before you pack up the Xbox I’d connect it online one last time. You probably don’t want to run an update at this point but if you do then make sure you run any software that updates just to make sure it won’t ask you to do that immediately or upon second startup.
Hopefully that’s good advice. I haven’t owned an Xbox One or Xbox Series console so some of this is just me being worried.
They just need to give in and remove the barrier that is stopping the game from being playable offline without the drm check
The games replay ability is in the toilet partially due to the live service that’s not a live service and that the disk version is not actually the installer
