Absolutely no offline campaign

The reason for this topic has been created to allow those to make their own mind up on weather they don’t mind losing access to their game down the line. A lot of people don’t even know the concept so raising this subject allows them a say

People love and play their Halo campaigns for years after such is why we have MCC. The concept of not being able to play Halo Infinite will not have even occurred to many. I am glad you are happy with the potential loss of a game but many will not be aware of this and so this thread exists

People expect to play campaign in the future and such a model contradicts that. This raises awareness of this

You think that is bad, HAVE YOU TRIED PLAYING AN ACTUAL SINGLE PLAYER GAME LIKE SKYRIM OFFLINE OR OBLIVION???

You can’t, its the nEw ErA oF gAmInG…

Same thing happened with Destiny, same with Halo 5.

Halo5 campaign at least on console can be played entirely offline. You have to set your xbox as home of course to do this but most games work offline. Destiny is a very different beast of course but Halo Infinite’s campaign is entirely offline playable we’re it not that MS asks for validation every 24hours or every time you turn your machine on in offline

This is where I am confused. I thought that with the Series S, you downloaded the game to the console, then could play it whenever you wanted. I thought with the Series X, the game was on the disc, you put it in and play away. I admit, I am not educated with a lot of this computer gear. People talk about this and that graphic card, this and that RAM etc. I have no idea. BUT all this just sounds fishy to me. What next ? You can’t actually buy any game, you have to log on and pay $5/hour ? Or Halo 7 comes out with 15 levels, all online. You have to pay $10 per level, which is programmed with an expiry, so you have one month to play it and then it locks up and becomes unplayable ? I’m afraid I have a bad feeling about where this is all headed.

yeah most games do work just fine offline when digitally downloaded do any xbox one in fact but the trouble is when developers put something in place that has them reaching out. In the case of Infinite it’s validation of purchase regardless of if you have already. Games that require an online presence to actually function is more understandable of course but Infinite campaign most certainly does not require this

And then there’s Gamepass where validation must exist because it’s a very different model of renting games within the subscription as opposed to owning the rights to play. By the nature of gamepass you will justifiably receive notification validation screen if not online but we shouldn’t be expecting this from our Halo Infinite campaign purchase

But yeah it’s worrying because as you say it can be taken in various directions. The big problem is a lot of people aren’t aware to this practice and this means it will likely accelerate unless people are aware to it. It’s up to the companies to do what they want of course but I also think people should be as aware as possible to these so that they can form their own opinions

I’m having this problem with halo mcc aswell. I’m in the forces and I deploy quite a bit and every now and then we get some downtime to just chill out so I get the ol gaming laptop out planning to play halo to get me back into my relaxed mind state and guess what, I cant play it. It really sucks.

I do completely agree on your point that it’s far from optimal that we cannot play the game on a console that hasn’t been online. One of the core features of games is the ability to play them on rainy days without any internet.

However, there do at least exist some positives with Halo Infinite like the ability to access custom games without an internet connection. On the other hand, I’m uncertain about the functionality for these features if you install the game on an offline console. This can be compared to Halo 5 where only the Campaign (Solo) is available on an offline console or Halo 4 where you cannot access the Spartan Ops offline.

it’s good people are discussing this at least…

Spartan Ops was a funny one because that then became offline playable within MCC. You don’t know what you’re going get each time it seems with 343 games. Halo5 removed custom multi and Forge and Infinite went and did the unthinkable with no offline campaign but bizarrely we got bots almost as an apology. Wanted bots since Halo1 but in getting them they take Campaign from us

Hopefully people see this as a not especially good thing in terms of not being able to access portions of their purchase potentially or simply the loss content altogether. At the very least it highlights the issue that a lot of folk have currently, enough that others may reach their own decision. A real issue that maybe people just haven’t thought about enough to know if they should care

This is NOT true at all man. I almost didn’t buy the game because I read all of this, but I HAD to give it a shot and see for myself because I figured there’s no effin’ way they’d force digital copy owners to do that. It just made zero sense to me. I got an xbox series S for Christmas and I did all of my downloads and updates at friends house because I have no internet at home. I’m now playing the campaign at home with no issue at all.

you haven’t read enough to know what we’re referring to. Try turning off your machine while in offline mode while at the plug for 10 seconds say and then turn on, remain in offline with machine and then start the game. And the verification screen will appear. It’s simply part of the game now. It’s very easy to play this game yes of course but only if you have a connection. Read the comments more closely

Did you read mine closely? I told you I’m playing the game at my home with no issues after I downloaded and updated everything AT MY FRIENDS PLACE. Like I said I have ABSOLUTELY NO INTERNET AT MY HOME WHERE I AM CURRENTLY PLAYING IT lol. That also means after I downloaded it and updated everything, I had to turn it off, unplug it for WELL OVER 10 seconds, y’know in order to take it home, where I turned it on with absolutely no way to connect to the internet, because like I said I have ZERO internet at all at my house (I’m using my cellphone data to use halo waypoint right now) and I was met with no verification screen at all. I’m playing it right now in fact. And I haven’t had internet access for my xbox since yesterday

hmm well if that’s the case then it’s hard to know what to think. I’ve tried two machines with the same issue and as someone has already pointed out, the 24hour drm is certainly in place. Do you have a magical machine perhaps?

I wonder if 343 has patched it out?

that’s encouraging to hear thanks. Hmm if this is the case then I sure hope 343 are aware of it because that almost makes it worse that some people can get to play this way while others cannot

All it would take is for 343 to confirm it

Well this gives me a little hope. It’s frustrating that 343 doesn’t just come out say that this isn’t the case though and the 24 hour thing that has said to be in place seems to assert something else

I may have to ask a pal to test this himself but if this proves the same for his digital copy then that would just confirm there is something in place. And of course others have said exactly the same thing occurring to them here so it’s definitely a thing

Again thanks for chiming in as it seems 343 sure ain’t going to. Put a ticket in and nothing so far either

Have you tried to Uninstalling the game completely then reinstalling it? That’s the only thing I can think of that might work. I’m not exactly tech savvy haha

I’ll give it a go cheers

My brother was visiting for Christmas, so I bought a cheap copy of H5 to play campaign with him. We’ve both never touched it and figured why not? We’ve got some time together. Low and behold, of course, there’s no local coop on the same console at all, lol. My brother laughed and we decided to play through H2 instead.

How can 343 not devote a little time to simple features like this and OP’s? It would only be beneficial in the long run.

Yeah I agree as do lots others. Each time they make these decision it knocks away at trust or even like of a company and for what exactly?
