I agree, it’s pointless for it to be there, but it was just a rumor that there was nothing on the disc. That happens with other games, not with Infinite. It makes me wonder why they would make it unplayable if it’s on there though of course
If there was literally nothing on there they would get more heat for it that’s why they put something in there to justify the discs exsistetance
Do you have any proof of that?
It does when he states ‘which is about the same size as the campaign if you installed it normally {downloaded}’
14gb is either a world record setting license file or it’s actually the campaign.
If it does then why can’t I play it offline?
I said PLAYABLE campagin.
For the same reason you can’t play it offline if you didn’t purchase the physical copy: because the Devs decided you can’t.
But that’s not the point I was going after, because it’s painfully clear that was an intentional design choice. However, I think feigning ignorance in the face of probable deduction needs to be addressed:
YES - that is a frightening statement. My hubby is seriously watching that.
the alternative to pushing back is to roll over. When you don’t even know there’s an issue to begin with then it all becomes so much easier to push this stuff through. Hopefully people see the idea of losing things they own as a problem which is why it’s always a good thing to speak up before it’s too late. I’m referring to the subject gaming ownership but it of course can apply to lots of things
Probably best keep this subject out of anything political though folks
I ordered the disc for Hubby as a chrissy present. Mind you, $99 AUD. He is still on the X-Box one, because we cannot get a X-Box Series X, all sold out everywhere. We live in a rural area and constantly loose internet, floods, bushfires, wombats etc. Having the disc, I thought anyway, would allow him to just put it in and play. In another thread, it has been discussed that no, you need to put the disc in and downloads have to happen first. I am starting to get a little concerned here and just want to get things straight -
- The disc is put in the X-Box.
- Internet is working, so download ensues.
- Campaign is ready to play.
NOW THIS BIT - A week after christmas, a wombat digs a hole and chews through the internet cable. While the internet is completely out, hubby can still put the disc in the X-Box and play the campaign.
IS THIS CORRECT ?
yeah I think in that case you will be able to because you have the means in the form of the disc to verify your purchase. I could be wrong but I think that’s the case once you’ve downloaded the extra. My exact problem is with having purchased it digitally because you simply can’t play it offline because it requires verification and you’re stuffed. With the disc you can at least verify that way instead
I’m pretty certain but someone with disc will I’m sure be able to say for something here.
The verify screen itself says put the dvd in to continue I recall
343i wasn’t silent on this. It’s been known for quite a while that this was a live service game or GaaS.
People we’re very unsure regardless and that’s when 343 should have been absolutely clear exactly what game Infinity would be especially as lots of threads we’re started asking this
I am glad we are waiting to get the Series X then. It seems extremely unfair to sell a Series S, that only has digital content, but then you can’t play if the internet goes down.
I can’t remember, because it was years ago, but I’m sure my hubby was fuming about something like this. Something about you HAD to be online and you couldn’t even take your disc to a friend’s place, I think it was something like that. If I remember correctly, he was angry because it was tracking you.
This type of thing is slowly invading gaming. I think the biggest issue for many has always been with single player games that really don’t require being online to actually play and then being forced online. The entirety of Halo’s Infinite campaign plays just fine offline so the requirement of validating your purchase is just frustrating and potentially very bad for game preservation.
Yeah it does seem odd that Series X owners get to play offline via the dvd purchase yet a digital purchase is locked out. It’s bit of a mess and I’m glad to see people speaking up on this potentially disastrous topic
thanks for your input
WOW, this is it, not buying the game, still pay for the game pass, but no more HI battle pass, I have already like 150 USD from Microsoft rewards and buying Jurassic park evolution 2 instead.
you’re likely not the only one
Didn’t think there would be people awake in here. I’m glad
its a live service game. idk what you expected
Idk. Maybe . Uhhhh
A COMPELTE GAME
game feels complete to me, closest thing to the joy Halo CE gave me back in 01
