I hate this growing trend of “You will own nothing and you will like it!”
Hold on this is actually Fallout 76 all over again.
This defeats the entire point of getting a supposed hardcopy so you can still play a game long after its live service has ended.
What the actual flying space brick, MS why sell hardcopies when you don’t even give the offline Campaign on a disc?
Yes indeed. The trouble these days is the entire data isn’t on these games anymore. It can’t be really because the nature of games is that they often grow and you can’t very often put all that data onto the discs. Disc rot is another factor that you can’t fully rely on. Digital is just another way that isn’t perfect either but we should be able to at least download and play the games and then worry about other stuff like media and hardware failure being another spanner to this. I have a few systems just for that reason actually
Here though 343 isn’t even allowing us access to the game while we’re offline because we firstly have to be online for daddy MS to tell us we’re allowed to
my isp went belly up for a few hours the other day, i tried to play a game i bought off steam to find its the same, have to log in to play a single player game… Who even devises these awful systems and thinks “this is good” and then who at the top level agrees, and pushes it through to people handing over their dollars?
I mean its a bit of a scam, what else in the modern world works like that?
Am I missing something? I just turned off my internet and can load into campaign just fine.
Some clarity here would be nice. Is this just 343 derangement syndrome or a real problem?
Atm I am playing via game pass, but I have considered buying a physical disc to complete my collection. However, if the game isn’t even on the disc I can’t say that I’d see the point in buying it.
turn off your machine entirely via plug for 10 secs and then try. You will be met with purchase screen if you attempt to launch while offline. If your machine is on it remembers you were online even if you go offline but turning it off altogether means you have to authenticate purchase again if you start the game while offline. The point being it’s not offline at that stage because you have to be online to allow for it to be offline
Purchase screen? It shouldn’t do that at all. You already paid for the game. It should recognize the license and allow you to play regardless of online status.
Sounds like a glitch to me.
clarity from 343 lol that would be nice. If 343 had told me I couldn’t play campaign offline I wouldn’t have bothered but with these type things it’s always silence. I feel for those at 343 who I’m guessing wouldn’t want this type of decision spoiling or entirely locking out players and it looks bad on them unfortunately
hmm I mean It could be. Purchase has been made and I’ve made my machine home and can definitely play all my other games offline. The difference here is it takes me to a screen once you choose campaign. I’m still in the Infinite program though and it’s here you’re presented with the buy or insert game disc. Clicking this has no effect because it can’t check. Once I go online and do this then there’s no problem until I turn the machine off and I have to start again if I attempt to play while offline.
I can’t speak to the playing offline issue but John Linneman of Digital Foundry pointed out that the disk doesn’t include a complete playable game back on December 6.
It’s quite upsetting that Halo Infinite has followed this trend. As a kid I played Halo offline and didn’t get into online play until Halo Reach and would be more comfortable if, in the future, my kids could enjoy this story offline off a disc.
i can literally play the campaign offline fine? i dont understand what the issue is
are you playing from disc? because you wont have the problem
if digital can you restart your machine and launch while offline. Set to being entirely offline and then turn off machine via the actual wall plug for 10 secs or so. Load the game while offline still and this should occur, a purchase screen will pop up
So what 10,20,30 years
That doesn’t make any sense. Fallout had a free open beta previewing the entire game before it even launched and it wasn’t on games pass when it did
Also ok they’re both shooters but is this an rpg now?
Gaming consoles are inconvenient? What kinda statement is that? You get to play games reliably on hardware that costs you less money than a laptop. Versus getting a reliable PC setup that would cost you well over $1000.
The Nintendo switch says hi btw. Can play a high quality OFFLINE game like Metroid Dread or Xenoblade 2 or breathe of the wild on the go or at home whenever I want.
Over $1000? Reliable hardware? Uh well you’ve clearly never built a PC before but ok. Mine is going to last the rest of this decade while you’ll be out buying the new slim plus X+ now with bluetooth every Xmas!
And lol switch. Yes I am so upset I play PC games in 4K and high frame rate and not in 30fps at 720p, reduced graphics via a portable 5.5" screen
I don’t think the servers will ever go offline unless Xbox or Microsoft go bankrupt… infinite uses azure servers
Yeah well they’re about to of they don’t get a better installer
