So I bought Halo Infinite digitally for my Series S and guess what, we can’t play this game offline. You can but every time you want to it involves having to sign online every time before you can then play offline which defeats the point obviously and is exactly the same DRM nonsense that MS tried pushing on us at the start of last gen. It might seem trivial now but the future issue is that potentially none of us will be able able to play at all regardless of if we have internet or not as the game will simply not function because of this. We are not allowed to play Infinite unless we first sign in despite how this game clearly functions just fine when it is we’re allowed to play it offline. My xbox has been set to home and so I should be able to play this just like all my other games
As we all know by now, having internet isn’t really an issue for most as we do mostly all have it and always will. It’s potentially down the line when servers don’t exist to support these games. We simply don’t know this outcome and so potentially we have a game that simply wont be able to play. We can play all the other Halo games but 343 has decided to make offline play only available if you sign in to online which is pointlessly absurd. Like I said this is fine all the while you can but we don’t know if we will be able to down the line rendering void our ownership of playing Infinite
So thanks 343 for being silent on this as not only have you cost me £54 but you’ve also pulled the wool over people’s eyes on the subject meaning this will undoubtedly continue with other games
The subject has been brought up enough times on this forum by myself and others and often we were told that 343 wouldn’t be so daft as to do such a thing but here we are
So again thanks 343. From this point on I shall negatively highlight Halo Infinite as a terrible thing to anyone that has interest. A shame as it’s rather good

Yup and players who got the disc have no actual game on it. It’s disgusting

I was wondering about that. It’s pretty despicable.

Thanks for responding to this guys. Yeah it’s just crafty and a disgusting practice which unless people start realising will just grow. This needs a pushback or to be highlighted by someone like the Modern Gamer on youtube
No wonder 343 kept very quiet on this
Total respect out the window for them

Not just that but I just found out these forums don’t have an offline mode either!
Where does it end?!

Bad analogy. Web forums, by their nature, are online. The same can’t be said for single player games. This would be like purchasing a drill or a circular saw (I’m doing some home repair atm, hence the tools…), but you have to sign up for an account in order to activate them.

Yeah, and from what I understand, getting a hard copy only gives 18 gigs of data. This online nonsense has become really stupid and gives the developer way too much control.
I’m so glad 343 can’t take the forge world away from me when Reach servers shut down. There are a few maps I have created and left to 343 they would have taken it all when Reach shuts down here shortly.
Part of me doesn’t want to say this, but it is 100% true. 343 majorly screwed up this game that I will not buy the battle pass or the campaign. This is the worst release in Halo’s history. This list of issues with this game just keeps piling up every single day about what is missing from this game and what issues it has. I just can’t even believe they found this acceptable.

I think it’s fine if people don’t find it a serious issue and I’ll be just moving onto something else when it comes to it because there’s no point getting too stressed, but there’s plenty that do care. Some live in the here and now but some folk just like the idea of the things they like being there. Books, films, games or anything really, people wil either stick with it or move on but it’s certainly an issue for a lot of people

Yup agree with you there. Thats almost every game nowadays sadly.
I mean 20 years later we can still boot up Halo CE. Will that be the case for Infinite? Or any GaaS title?

Gaming consoles are inconvenient and have expensive monthly fees just to go online
If you wanted portable then a gaming PC was the way to go. It is serious if it’s your money and you need to do the serious research first before buying

Yeah the very reason I never put any time into Halo5 Forge. So much time and effort just taken when it is you can’t access any more. It seems such an obvious thing to highlight but some people wont even engage with the concept

It’s the same reason I didn’t spend time in Halo 5 forge. Besides that, there were way too many issues with the lighting that drove me nuts and turned blocks black that couldn’t be fixed.

I never tried it long enough to know tbh just because it wasn’t offline to begin with. Ah well

I made one map and had to move the entire thing a few times just to get some of the blocks to light up properly, the process of that was hell that I gave up.

Thank whoever for single-player games

It’s fast becoming a great excuse to play all those games I never did on the older systems. I’m hoping MS doesn’t own any of them but i’s unfortunately just where it’s going. I was hoping for just one last Halo campaign though but too good to be true

is this something they will patch you think?. I have a big digital collection but other than poker games I check I can play them offline and this would put me off getting a Halo game

Yeh this is stupid what 343i are doing. Microsoft have been trying to promote game preservation and 343i do the exact opposite.

lol aint that true. The saviour of preservation apparently
This is the same concern I bring up to people when they ask me why I still buy both CDs and MP3s.
“Oh, I just use [Spotify/Apple Music/Amazon Music]”
That’s great, I’m glad it works, but when (not if) they eventually shut down or the internet becomes unavailable for prolonged periods, where will your music library be? So long as I keep backups of my digital files and a device to play them, I’ll always be able to listen to mine. I’m not locked out of my music collection because some service can yank them away by playing games with ‘licensing’ or if they ever shut down.
