Absence of Red X and Damage Indicators

Hey.

I’d just like to start off by saying; Yes, I know there was a thread that addressed the Red Xs being gone. But that’s not my main concern. My main concern is the second part of this problem, the one I can’t believe no one seems bothered by.

The absence of the damage indicators and firing indicators above your teammates heads. I’m sorry, but I can’t be the only one who uses these arrows a lot to help me find teammates and assist with teamshotting, or to help an ally who is taking damage. When a teammate is off-screen and is firing their weapon, a little yellow arrow will point at them. If they are taking damage, it becomes orange.

And I know a lot of people are arguing that “In Halo 4, the arrow above your teammates head still turns purple when they are taking damage.” Okay, fair enough, except for the fact that is only taking damage, and not firing, which is when it is more useful, in my opinion.

And of course the biggest problem with it, they don’t appear on the edges of the screen if you aren’t looking in their direction. For example, if a teammate is behind you and taking damage, you won’t get a purple arrow pointing in their direction.

I’d also like to briefly mention the Red Xs. What the hell? I… I don’t have words to describe how silly it is to take out something that was not only incredibly useful, but almost an icon of Halo. I recall seeing a shirt somewhere that had a few Red Xs on it, and the phrase “I see dead people.” I instantly got the reference and loved it. Well, not anymore.

I know the game has gone gold and they can’t fix it now, but seriously. Why? Why take out something so useful? It seriously feels like they are just changing things for the sake of changing, which is never good and is honestly -Yoink!- me off.

TL;DR: Why the hell did they take away the Red Xs and the damage and firing indicators for our team? They were useful and didn’t hurt anything.

-MH

Never noticed in the videos… Going to definitely see if they’re gone. I used those a lot to help me know how my teammates were doing.

Yeah I really don’t get why they changed this. On the upside though, this may encourage people to plug their -Yoinking- mics in… lol

@XDOG

That was my only positive thought on the matter. But that doesn’t change the fact that, even with a mic in, it helped to pinpoint someone that much faster.

That is true. But a good coordinated team would know each others service tags so you could say “Enemy on me”, and your mates would rush to you.

Oh, I’m not arguing that at all. Just saying, I’ll miss those little arrows.

As will I… -Moment of silence-

I care… D:

this ticks me off, especially if im searching by myself and no ones communicating.

If they’re gone in the shipped game then that will become very annoying. I don’t think 343i realizes that only 2 out of every 1000 halo players have a mic plugged in. . . and only one of those two will actually use it during the match.

Huh, odd. They were practically your only way of finding out your team status when playing with randoms.

The only positive to come out of this is the most annoying call-out in Halo history “ONE SHOT ON MY X” will finally be put to rest.

People are going to need to learn to properly call-out now in pubs.

There’s even a video dedicated to the famous “ONE SHOT ON MY X” Call-out LMAO

One shot my X is much easier to understand and far more exact than, for example, a pillars/court/hut/bon/greenbox etc because at a glance I can pinpoint the exact location.

Also, it greatly helps with dropped weapons because instead of looking around the entirety of greenbox I can see my team mates X or body and know where that sniper or rocket launcher is.

Yes, because hearing someone say, " one-shot behind that rock to the left of the lift behind the door outside that room on the lower level of the map near that warthog spawn!" will be SO much better and more accurate than just glancing at where their X is.

EDIT: Ultimately, I just can’t think of any real legitimate reason to have removed it. I can already guarantee that it won’t improve team-play. . . if anything, people will ignore their team even more since they won’t know who needs help and who’s dead. Also, don’t tell me that you can just use mics, because we all know that the majority don’t have them and those that do are usually idiots.

True, but your only giving your team the obvious information. A much more effective call-out is “hes 1 shot sniper Hut going Pea-shooter” which is how you see most of the pros call-out. I agree it has its advantages, its just annoying that everyone says “ONE SHOT ON MY X” and then I look there and hes not there but somewhere else by the time I get there.

“On my X.” has it’s moments. But for the most part, that’s not the reason I’m annoyed that it’s missing. It was a lot like the damage indicator. A friendly just died there? Better rethink turning that corner. It’s just goes to show how much 343 is changing just for the sake of change.

What the hell does “hes 1 shot sniper Hut going Pea-shooter” even mean?

There are damage indicators, but you have to be looking in your teammates’ direction to see them.

Yeah, I mentioned that in the OP. It’s incredibly inconvenient.
