So we finally got the release date. I’m glad we did, it’s about time! I know they were trying to avoid releasing too close to call of duty or battlefield, but they are now releasing Halo Infinite a day after the game that will in my opinion be its biggest rival for game of the year. I don’t know, definitely a good idea to space it out from Call of Duty and Battlefield, but they could’ve at least spaced it out a week from Dying Light 2, the game which I am expecting to be the the other big game this fall. I know they won’t have all the same fan base, but I know I’m not the only one who is solely looking forward to those too games this year.

I am looking forward to Dying Light 2 however it has nothing on the Halo Franchise. I wouldn’t even call Dying Light 2 an anticipated GOTY contender in general.
Was thinking the same thing because dying light is one of the best games ever so im excited about them both

Don’t get me wrong, Halo is my favorite game franchise, but Dying Light is hands down my favorite game I’ve ever played. From what I’ve seen, Dying Light 2 looks even better. Who knows, maybe Halo Infinite will win GOTY, maybe Dying Light 2, maybe neither. But I would absolutely consider both GOTY contenders. Anyway I’m just saying that they could take sales away from each other releasing so close together. I definitely plan on getting both as they are the 2 games I have been looking the most forward to since 2018, but some people may choose one or the other

Dying Light 2 looks cool and should be good however that game has had an incredibly rough development cycle and they do not have the funding to compensate if something did go wrong. GOTY this year will be pretty stacked with Psychonauts 2, Ratchet and Clank, Forza Horizon 5, Hitman 3, Pokemon Unite, Deathloop, Kena, Battlefield, CoD, Halo Infinite, and Metroid Dread.

I’m going to be really honest with you for a minute. I’m the kind of guy who has been playing video games since they took quarters at the local pizza shop. I own 10 consoles (not counting all the handhelds) and have around 600 games in my Steam library. I was an early adopter into VR. I spend a lot of money on gaming these days as it is a huge hobby of mine. I watch E3 conferences, I read gaming sites, I watch a ton of gaming-related media on YouTube. I feel I’m pretty plugged into that world.
I only have the faintest idea of what “Dying Light” is and had ZERO idea a sequel was on the way in a few months. I even like horror games. I don’t see the follow-up to a 6-year-old zombie game (another one?) that got a 75 on Metacritic competing with the game that is plastered all over Mountain Dew cans, Doritos bags and action figures and singlehandedly started Xbox as a household name. If I was the publisher of Dying Light 2, I would be worried about moving my release date… not the other way around.
That said, your post has now inspired me to look at Dying Light as more than just “Generic Zombie Game 539” - so I appreciate it. Looks like it sold 5 million copies in its first year, which is about on par with Halo 5, so the game must have something going for it. Looking at a video it looks like Far Cry meets Just Cause meets Dead Island with some Mirror’s Edge thrown in… which seems bonkers, but hey it’s on sale on Steam right now.

Both games have had very similar developments and marketing. And have a lot in common.
- Both are sequels to 2015 games.
- Both were announced at E3 2018
- Both are made on entirely new engines than their predecessors
- Both were originally supposed to release in 2020 but were delayed to 2021
- Both are cross gen
And now they’re releasing a day apart.

Techland doesn’t have the 343i budget nor the same quality of engine and I would argue that 343i’s talent is much higher due to being under Microsoft. You do state many commonalities however they do not have the ability to pull resources from other studios like 343i to make up for their development faults. I really hope Dying Light 2 is an amazing game however I just have a gut feeling it won’t be. Hopefully I am wrong because I am looking forward to it.

Lets see how the co-op in the game runs first before we state this lol. I believe the performance mode on consoles only goes up to 60 FPS as well.

I’m talking about co-op campaign. The game won’t have that at launch. Are you talking about something different?

I am stating that Dying Light 2 has co-op at launch however I am skeptic how it will perform in terms of performance.
Yeah ive been looking forward to Dying Light 2, I’m gonna need a week off work to play both of them, that game has a large following as well, I guess they didn’t have much choice if the game won’t be ready before then, since releasing it later will effect their Christmas sales

GOTY this year will be pretty stacked with Psychonauts 2, Ratchet and Clank, Forza Horizon 5, Hitman 3, Pokemon Unite, Deathloop, Kena, Battlefield, CoD, Halo Infinite, and Metroid Dread.

My computer is more than capable of handling the game’s specs.
Unless its made of absolute spaghetti code, it’ll be fine for me.

I know they were trying to avoid releasing too close to call of duty or battlefield, but they are now releasing Halo Infinite a day after the game that will in my opinion be its biggest rival for game of the year. It has nothing to do with what your computer can or cannot do.
