About the Rakshasa Armor Core

It’s upbringing comes from the idea of “stripped down armor with scavenged replacement parts”, which is a neat idea indeed. But that makes me wonder, is there concept art for the non stripped down version of it? I would love to see it’s “original” look.

On another note, it’s back part has me wondering, where does this armor gets its power/energy from? Usually spartan armor has power packs on the back, which are different in each armor core, but at least we know where the “batteries” are placed lorewise. Since the back of the Rakshasa armor core appears to be made up from the straps holding the front armor piece, where is it getting it’s energy from? Is tecnology in the Halo universe more advanced now and the power packs became tinier/not noticeable, or what is happening?

If this is included in the new Encyclopedia I’ll have to buy it.

I have no idea, but I’m ecstatic that they’re pushing out unique and title specific armor for this season. I’ve been saying that Halo Infinite needs its own identity, and this is the sort of stuff I like to see.

I agree, but I don’t mind having older stuff too. I’m already looking forward to a Battle Pass with the Mjolnir mk. IV armor core (Halo Wars Spartan Armor). This game customization is a cosplayer dream come true… I mean, it will be, in the future, not right now.

I love the look of the core overall- but the back of it is ugly as sin. I couldn’t have imagined a more ridiculous back plate for a mjolnir armor set lmao.

Yeah, I was like: But where is the back armor plate at? Where is this suit getting it’s energy from?

I’ve seen people arguing (on a Facebook group though) that the under suit is just the marines standard BDU stuff underneath the armor, but I don’t wanna believe that. If it is that, it be kinda dissapointing. So that’s why I wanna know more about that armor.

is it just me, or does the front of the chest plate sort of resemble the chest plate of the classic CE marines. in-fact, a lot about this new core reminds me of the marines throughout the franchise. pretty neat

So I have a theory. I think they’re lifting some ideas from 40k.

So you have your basic Intercessor armour that most front line soldiers wear but the Vanguard or Reaver scouts wear a more stripped down version.

In the art book there’s also a bulky suit that looks like Mark 7 with additional plates added on the chest legs and arms. This is a lot like how Mark 3 Iron Armour is just Mark 2 with a ton of additional plate slapped on for boarding actions.

They seem to be going for the idea that instead of just Spartans you have distinct units within the Spartan Branch like the Lones Wolves going behind enemy lines like marine scouts.

So it wouldn’t surprise me if they expand on this idea until you have something similar to a Space Marine company from 40k. For example:

Mark 7 - Tactical Marine
Spartan Jet Pack troops - Assault Marines
Heavy weapon troopers - Devastators
You could even get a tank unique to the Spartan branch. Perhaps something like a Stryker tank in real life.

But basically push the idea the Spartans are an actual army or branch of the military instead of a project ONI has on the books.

Sounds like they are making a Buccaneer Gen-3 platform.

Buccaneer MJOLNIR was made to be cheap and have parts that you could typically have an easy time to find; thus making replacement repairs easy and affordable.

Yeah I’m not a fan of the lack of a back plate either. Maybe the power supply has been moved to the front on the chest? Also you can tell that the undersuit isn’t standard BDU. It doesn’t match what we see in the campaign and seems to be thicker and more padded than BDU.

I think that’s the point : it looks like the Shield Generator pylons were removed, probably due to damage.

I think the Lonewolves are practically Shieldless using backup power to fuel the suit’s core systems, could explain why there’s an arm attachment for a Jackal Shield or what I presume is a wrist mounted shield unit.

The armor looks like it doesn’t have shields. as those require access to maintenance and new batteries to keep running over extended periods of time. Sure with out strain it can keep up the shields almost forever but in near constant combat behind enemy lines well we saw how easily one major event can take out the power packs in the fact Chiefs where blown after just CE.

My best guess is the Rakshasa armor doesn’t have shields canonicly.

Perhaps Rakshasa armor doesn’t have shields because it actually isn’t a MJOLNIR platform, but instead something more akin to the Semi-Powered Infiltration armor utilized by the majority of Spartan-IIIs?

It augments their abilities, but it doesn’t provide as much of an augmentation as the standard MJOLNIR setup. It is designed for more covert operations. And given the fact that the Spartans that utilize the armor are known as “Lone Wolves”, I would guess that they are somewhat like Headhunters and perform covert operations behind enemy lines.

Its solar powered obviously

If 343 is really tying the Rakshasa armour core to Halo Lore, then the armour could have been used by Spartan III’s. The armour that the III’s used was not Mjolnir but SPI and eventually Mirage Exoskeleton. SPI did not have energy shields. The armor was powered by a low-profile, shielded [BA-55901/PLMD] (See: Halo Mythos pg 77). Only the Headhunters SPI armour, which was more advanced, had some energy shielding.

This could account for the lighter armour and

Picture the Homer Simpson Backfat meme, it gives of these vibes

Yeah that wrist attachment was a shield generator from an elites armor. That particular Spartans armor set uses a lot of elite armor pieces.

With the crosscore coming in for non-fracture cores, we’re gonna get so much customization within a few seasons, we’re not gonna know what to do with ourselves

But then why are we going to be playing multiplayer, with shields, in that armor?

It don’t make no sense.

It’s just cosmetics, live with it.

I’ve seen all your answers, and most of you agree that the Rakshasa armor core is something akin to the SPI armor worn by Spartan IIIs. If that’s the way 343i takes this, it makes a lot of sense why it is so stripped down/doesn’t have a visible “power supply”. I thought about it as another version of MJOLNIR armor, but it doesn’t have to be that for it to work lorewise.

To those that argue: Then how is it going to have shields in-game? Simple, for game balancing purposes. The SPI armor, reintrodiced in MCC as the Mirage armor, also has shields in game, while in lore it doesn’t have them. So it would make a lot of sense that the same happens here.

Imma enjoy this armor core system so much, just hope they don’t completly scrap it. It just needs to have crosscore capabilities for it to work. I hope they add a Mark IV and a Mark V (Halo CE) core eventually. Another good candidate is that same SPI armor.
