At the end of Primordium, the IsoDidact destroys the Primordial’s body. However, the Primordial took over the Gravemind after this, and the Gravemind since then has actually been the Primordial, as confirmed by Mythos. In Silentium, we learn of the Key Mind, essentially a Gravemind covering an entire planet. So, since the Gravemind is the Primordial post-Primordium, so I imagine the Key Mind is also the Primordial, if I understand it correctly.
I just want to mention here that Halo wars 2 classifies keyminds as those intelligent flood forms that have not yet formed a proto gravemind. I’m not sure if they mean proto graveminds and graveminds are still keyminds but just more advanced ones. This is of course confusing because to this day keyminds have meant the planet sized super graveminds.

While your thread is slightly different,I made one not even a day ago talking about all 3 of these things soooo

That’s interesting. At what point does the Primordial regain a body to command the Flood?

Would be scary to see the Primordial covering an entire planet.

Or you could say are minds are “flooded” with good ideas
Ok, so, Halo Wars 2 has shed a bit more light on Flood biology and evolution, especially when it comes to Keyminds.
Essentially what I’m gathering is that there are kind of like “two” kinds of Keyminds. You’ve got the standard Keyminds which are formed before a Proto Gravemind. When enough of these Combat Keyminds, such as Abominations and Juggernauts, are formed and come together, they combine their localized intellgence to form a Proto Gravemind. And again, Keyminds, like almost any other Flood form, can assume any particular form they wish, adapting to the situation at hand (just a trait The Flood kept from the Precursors). As such, we can assume that the Flood colonies in Halo Wars 1 are Keyminds as well.
Once the Proto Gravemind is formed, it begins sifting through the memories and knowledge of every sentient organism consumed by the lesser Keyminds. They act as like files for the Proto Gravemind to access. Once enough cognitive knowledge has been assumed, equal to that of viable biomass, a Proto Gravemind thus ‘evolves’ into a Gravemind, unlocking the consciousness of the Primordial and thus initiating the Coordinated stage. At this point, Pure Flood forms are created and multiple Keyminds and Proto Graveminds are in the making. This allows multiple Graveminds to be formed and the Primordial a chance to coordinate multiple Flood “factions” in multiple areas across any given planet or Fleet simultaneously.
We then move on to what the Forerunners referred to as Keyminds. These entities are when the Flood have amassed an entire planetary ecosystem, or something rather similar, along with an equal amount of cognitive knowledge. These planetary bodies essentially become Flood hives, capable of producing billions of Flood forms and many Graveminds who, again, become one singular entity. At this point, the Primordial has become capable enough to now coordinate entire solar systems and fleets together, such as Mendicant Bias’s fleet at the Battle of the Maginot Sphere.
However, there is one more, penultimate, advantage the Primordial and The Flood now have: that is the ability to operate and utilize Neural Physical technology and manipulate space-time itself, thus “infecting” it. This slows down and manipulates Slipspace travel, allows the Flood to instantly communicate with one another at any location in the Galaxy, and sets the stage for Galactic consumption. We can educationally assume that High Charity was a Keymind after it was consumed by the Flood, as it had enough biomass to literally transform the station into a Flood hive, and, as we saw in Halo Wars 2, create minor Keyminds in the form of Abominations. Also, the fact that the Gravemind onboard High Charity was able to manipulate the station’s Slipspace drives with Neural Physics to jump from Mars to the Ark without the use of a portal reinforces this hypothesis.

I wonder, is the Primordial not able to tap into neural physics when he’s just a Gravemind? Since he’s a Precursor, you’d think he’d just be able to utilize it.

Abominations aren’t keyminds

There’s been some confusion because Halo Wars 2 has a phoenix log that calls the Abominations “Key minds”, not keyminds. A Canon Fodder article recently talked about it. Basically, don’t try and classify it too much. It’s all just powerful Flood that can control other forms, with varying strength and power.

Keyminds I’m referring to are the ones that are basically flood planets

Which is basically a bigger Gravemind. Doesn’t really need a classifying name, especially since planets differ in mass all the time. There could theoretically be a keymind the size of Halo 2’s Gravemind if ‘controlling entire planet’ is the classification.

Just a decent size flood infested planet is all I need
Key minds are a dangerous flood super form that forms when the flood manage to infect all the bio-mass on a planet/moon/covenant super city. Once there is a Key mind you are pretty much dead already

IF I’m correct about this, the flood share all intelligence don’t they? If so then the Primordial, IF it really was already flood-infected, could use neural-physic-magic to transfer its intelligence into the overall flood network / mind through something like the Domain and use that to command all of the flood forces before the final array activation. And so yeah, after Primordium the primordial is the flood and the flood is the primordial…
And if it wasn’t also the key mind planet thing then that would mean there are different intelligences within the flood’s hivemind and so it isn’t a truly unified force as who is at the top of the chain? who decides what to infect first? keymind #1,the primordial or keymind #2401? What happens when one flood gravemind thinks another flood gravmind isn’t doing the floods best interest? Would they kill each other over such hivemind problems?
eg: Halo 2 gravemind + forces meet with Halo 1 proto and forces but they don’t agree on the best avenue to infect the galaxy (like what planet to go to first) and so they try to kill each other in order to control each other’s biomass and continue infecting their own way. ----- weird scenario but still…
The planet-sized Key Minds(note the capitalization on both words’ first letters) are essentially just processing nodes of the main Gravemind/Primordial. The other key minds (note lack of capitalization on both words) are specialized Flood coordinating bodies created through the fusing of captured sentient entities with pure Flood cells.
