About the campaign reviews (no spoilers)

Im wondering if most of the bad reviews are because of the reviewers lack of knowledge in terms of the Halo lore. i mean most of them say its hard to follow… im just wondering if someone like me who has read the novels and kept up with the lore would find it disappointing?

anyone here play it and have also vast knowledge of the lore? NO SPOILERS PLEASE

just want to hear your thoughts. but in the end no one will judge it better than yourself

I feel like these reviewers have short attention spans is all. People said the same thing about halo 4s campaign, and I personally think halo 4 had the best story of the franchise. Just remember- reviews are just the opinions of a single, random journalist. They have no impact on your own ability to think and make decisions for yourself. But in direct response, I know the ending and (being a lore addict) I thought it was really interesting. Unexpected for sure, but interesting.

If you know your lore you will be able to follow the stry. Its still bad XD the game lacks a proper clímax and ends just when things start to get intresting also the final act seems like fanfiction XD tring to get you to like lock. I like New characters, i dont like beeing forced to like them

If you know the lore you should be good and people need to understand that the campaign is just the beginning of much more to come so an open ending is perfectly fine

It does seem reviewers are nitpicking the game for not having setup the more for them: I think they are over doing it. I personally always YouTube prior games in a series in case I forgot information or just don’t want to play the previous titles.

343 could have and probably should have pulled video assets from MCC and provided a voice over to setup the campaign.

Add in the fact that the game’s story has a slow starting pace, making you feel like a lot is going to happen over the course of the game (in which hardly anything happens) and this is exactly how I felt.

To I feel like the campaign for Halo 5 will be similar to how most people experienced the Halo 4 campaign. First play through I thought the story doesn’t make as much sense because of some of the lore based plot points. When I played the H4 campaign for the first time I fell into that boat, finishing it thinking it was fun, but not my favorite. Then, as the MCC came out I took the time to read just the 1st book “The Fall of Reach” and get caught up on the lore a bit more. As I played through the consecutive campaigns of 1, 2, 3, then 4, everything took on a new meaning and Halo 4’s campaign became one of my favorite. The story, after having learned more of the lore, was soooo much better. I’m hoping that my first run with H5’s campaign will a lot more similar to my second play through with the H4 campaign. I think most who are at least up to date with how the story played out in H4 and have some understanding of the origins of Blue Team should be fine with the H5 campaign. Right now you can watch the first episode of The Fall of Reach on The Halo Channel that helps to fill in some of the gaps if you’re lacking in Blue Team/Chief origin lore.

I have a feeling this game is a lot like halo 2… promised a huge earth battle which didnt happen and it just suddenly ended. i have a feeling people will learn to love it. like it has been said before halo 2s campaign was hated but now everyone seems to love it.

at least the multiplayer has been universally loved by mostly everyone and i loved the beta.

I feel the same way.

I liked the beta for Halo 5. I’ve only played Halo 3 and didn’t finish it because my 360 hated me. I’m not going to play 5 until I finish 1-4 though I don’t want to be lost.

If the game is good then that’s all I care about but it will still be a disappointment if Hunt the Truth was all for nothing…I mean why have such a strong story mean nothing? It was part of the marketing and if those events are never talked about it is a let down

Just judge it for yourself, people are always going to be trolling…

To OP’s credit, that’s exactly what some reviewers complained about, relying too heavily on the extended fiction.

Nevertheless, the reviewers are right too. Shouldn’t rely too much on extended fiction.

I 'm sure Halo 5 will be ok.

Halo CE, Halo 2 and Halo 3/have a nice story that you can play and understand almost fully. Halo 4? No. Halo 5? It seems not.

Well, halo 4 was the first game to actually try something other than “go here, blow this up”. Although I think the original trilogy still had an amazing plot. I view halo 4s story more as a character story rather than an overall story. The stuff with the didact was cool, but seeing the character of chief develop throughout the game really sold it too me.

Halo 2 ended on an abrupt moment as well (being in the center of the trilogy and all). I expected a cliff hanger already. I’ll play the campaign myself to judge your other points though.
