Hey! I have been an halo fan for long time. During the Halo 3 days, I did the vidmaster achievements to get the recon set, it was really hard and time consuming, then they gave it away to everyone. Then, I did all the campaings in legendary for the Helioskrill, Halo 2’s was hell but I did it anyway. Some time passed and it started popping up in REQ packs. This pattern of giving away hard to get armor acts as a disincentive to even try to get future sets, such as the Watchdog armor coating.
I think 343 should keep this armor coating exclusive to those who made it though the 152 grind. Just as the Achilles in H5.
What do you guys think? Should the exclusivity be temporal or permanent?
It would be nice if they left this Skin exclusively for those who managed to reach rank 152. (You could even continue to get it if you play Halo 5 and level up.)
My option would be to give an alternative version of that Skin that looks less exclusive, but something similar. So everyone happy.
Great post, and totally agreed. I have personally grinded for the Halo 3 Recon armor, Halo 5 Helioskrill and Achilles, as well as the SR 152. These achievements mean a lot to those who worked for them and should not simply be given away. One exception i see is if it would be impossible to now earn the unlocks, which would be fine to give the unlockable priaes away at that point since there would be no other way… As it currently stands, all these can still be unlocked.
…but participation awards for everyone!!! Aside from that I totally agree. Did the vidmaster challenges, helioskrill, Achilles armor/helmet and on 149 towards 152. Stop opening these “legacy” awards up to people who have no legacy!
My only problem is what exactly this armor coating is.
It’s Primary White, Secondary Black, with the color distribution following a standard pattern. This is a direct application of taking something that we used to have normal access to away from most players. On top of that, it’s a common design usually used by players.
I would be okay with SR 152s getting this coating exclusive to them if it at least had some nonstandard pattern to it, like a “152” printed on the armor somewhere. But just being White and Black with standard pattern? Not okay with it.
Idk, in my opinion, they should continue as-is. The rewards for all Legendary campaigns, SR 152, Spartan Company, etc are really mediocre. Maybe a tad worse than mediocre. Upon seeing those rewards, I knew there was no way I was going to do any of that just for those, of all things. I’ve already handled Legendary on the original games on their original platforms, the reward for doing it over again wasn’t enticing. Especially the exclusive Halo 5 stuff. Just trying to sludge through that game for 10 minutes is more than I’m willing to deal with. Perhaps if 343 implement actually desirable rewards for these things in a GOOD game, then sure. I’ll bite.

…which is what happened with Helioskrill. The one you get from the respective achievement in H2A has a certain pattern, but you can get it with another pattern from REQ Packs.
Personally I think that any type of award for impressive feats should be exclusive forever or for several years, so when you see it in a lobby you know what that person has accomplished. Halo has always done this poorly, except with Recon, which if I’m not mistaken took several years to be available to everybody.
A friend of mine told me, he made it to 152 but said, it was just purely playtime and nothing really special like the MCC LASA challenges or the Vidmaster from Halo3/ODST. He still will take the reward for it but he said there is nothing special about reaching the max rank in a game because it was no real challenge.
I also would think, whenever somebody is going around with the 152 skin or whatever it will be “wow, you really waste your time in that game? like I would understand it if there were so many players like in Reach or 3 but yeah… if you had fun with it fine, but don’t think that I will think how much skill you have”. It’s just what I honestly think about it.
There should be more rewards in Infinite for the real achievements just like LASA.

I would just think “Did you actually really wasted your time there?” Would been totally different if it was a real achievement like the Vidmaster Challenges

Those were Achievements, which is the same case as Helioskrill, although the former were obviously more difficult Achievements.
If you’re referring to lvl152, then I’m inclined to agree, as you just get it “simply” by playing, regardless of how many hundreds of hours it takes. It’s not the same as the other feats, but it’s still respectable, if you will, in my book.
I believe that rewards for things which are generally rare and which display dedication and determination should remain exclusive.

I personally don’t feel like my time in Halo 5 was wasted. I thought it had one of the best multiplayers in the series, and I enjoyed the time I spent playing. Getting 152 may not be an indication of someone’s skill, but it does show their devotion to the game.
I would prefer the awards remain exclusive, at least until the game is considered end of life and the majority of players have moved onto the next game in the series.
Permanent for sure. If you worked that long and hard to get it, it should remain exclusive to the select few. Shouldn’t be given away like a participation trophy in the end.

Well look at the Helioskrill which - I believe - was later avaible to all in a REQ-Pack

I wouldn’t say it’s “no real challenge.” Skill wise, I suppose it isn’t but it takes a lot of dedication to get max rank in Halo 5. Loyal players should be rewarded for playing an extreme amount, even if they kinda suck. I agree that there should be more “skillful” unlocks though.
I won’t reach SR 152 just for a couple of colors, but the rewards should still be exclusive to this milestone.
Not everything needs to be a participant award.
