About Sniper Slayer and close range combat

I was playing sniper slayer again and what I have always been wondering is why people try to have close range combat with it. I never really understood that (and I suck at it too). So why isn’t there a secondary weapon like Magnum? Close range battles are usually boring with sniper and players just jump and do little circles and try to land a hit. Should it have a weapon for closer range?

What do you think?
Would it ruin some maps?
Of course it would ruin Haven and that sized maps but I don’t think they should even be in that game mode, imo. Large maps are more fun to snipers.

If not Magnum, then what gun would be good for that range, so it wouldn’t ruin the use of snipers?

Another idea would be deleting Shotty snipers and adding shotgun to the basic sniper slayer mode.

How would you feel about this?

Although I don’t normally play snipers, I certainly see your point about people doing the ‘Dodge Dance’. But, in my opinion, we already have another weapon for close quarters: Melee.
At least that’s what I do when I’m stuck in a pickle at very close range with a sniper duel. Run up to my opponent and give 'em a few good smacks upside the head with the butt of my sniper. Normally does the trick…unless they snapshot my head off. :stuck_out_tongue:

The Magnum would personally ruin the aspect of snipers for me. It’s an especially strong sidearm, and most players would use it instead unless a really long distance required it. Maybe a less powerful secondary like the Plasma Pistol? Take would be fine.

Well… Honestly landing a Sniper headshot at close range in Halo 4 is easier than it’s ever been in any Halo to date… So I don’t see a problem.

No way. Though secondary weapons in Sniper gametypes can be beneficial, they’re mostly used by players to cheaply get kills. I was okay with Shotty Snipers in Halo 3 because the lack of sprint made it feasible to kill those players before they got close, but sprint nearly prevents that. If you gave players Magnums or Shotguns, they would use those weapons as their primaries, not their secondaries.

The Sniper is easy to use at close range. It’s pretty much like using a shotgun. Long range battles just are not exciting.

I don’t mind the magnum secondary a la Halo Reach, but please, for the love of god, remove shotty snipers and never bring it back. ever. And do NOT add shotguns to default load outs for snipers.
