About maps; is it just me, or...

…does it seem like some of the Spartan Ops maps/missions would make GREAT 4v4 competitive maps?

Examples (I can’t remember mission names off hand so bear with me): the area where you’re locked up in Episode 6, Chapter 1. If that initial area included a bit more of a second level, and some more ground-level cover, it would be pretty great.

Also, the last area in the last chapter of Episode 9, where you fight off 3 waves of enemies after going up the big grav lift. Again, if it had a bit more upper-level surface area, and were a tad larger, it would be a perfect 4v4 map.

Even some of the larger maps would make great BTB/Sniper maps, like the large cavern map in the last few episodes with the forerunner structure near the end and the small ravine that runs through: perfect Team Sniper map!

My hope with this new map pack is that the two supposedly “small” maps will be Haven size, maybe even just a tad smaller, are symmetrical, and have easily identifiable/distinguishable callouts/areas. My one complaint about the stock Haven map is that even though you can usually tell where you are, there are few visually distinguishable callout areas since everything looks the same texture wise and is all the same colour. The recent addition of red and blue lights in Team Doubles helps, but it would have been preferable to have those sort of visual cues put in from the start.

It’s still fun to play without them, and I again, I can usually easily tell where I am, but when calling out players to people in pubs, or friends who aren’t as savvy as I am, it’s much easier to have distinguishable visual cues in a map that otherwise looks the same all the way around with exception of slight structural differences. I have a hard time saying “2 guys on the back ramp where blue guys spawn at” because people I’m playing with aren’t privy to pro-level callouts. It’d be easier to say “2 on green ramp” or “1-shot yellow cooridor” or whatever.

I feel like maps like Guardian, which had distinctive looks to almost ever room were much easier to call out to even rookie players even if you didn’t know the “official” callout location names, that’s all.

Thoughts on the Ops maps & map pack hopes/wants?

Actually we have 4v4 Complex which is the worst of all maps. I prefer maps that are designed to fit 4v4 from scratch.

The last thing Halo 4 needs is more large maps. I appreciate the idea but they did what you are talking about in Halo Reach and it did not fly very well. Most of the maps you are referring to are in the campaign.

If you like something in SpOps, the only way to play it in War Games is to recreate it yourself, I’m afraid.
