The curtrent radar in most playlists helps the guy sitting in a corner more than anything. Ive never been a fan of radars in the first place but if you are going to use on why not the ability tracking one as the new standard radar?
Feels fine the way it is to me, really. Just needs to go back to the 25m range it used to have.
I wouldn’t mind this kind of radar being used in some of the more chaotic playlists, really. Super Fiesta, Infection, and BTB to name a few. Otherwise, it’s not too necessary.
I find the radar distance to short.
Because Waypoint isn’t interested in an actual improvement in their gameplay experience. Hell, there is some people who still think this sandbox is perfect the way it is. I just want Waypoint to surprise me at this point.

I mean…it’s a pretty -Yoinking!- good sandbox. Not perfect, but it’s definitely better than Reach and 4.

The state of our competitive settings begs to differ.
I don’t care so much as to how people show up on the radar (I think this version is fine), but the range needs to go up. I’m sure that thought is almost universal at this point.

I could go on and on about how you are extremely wrong by saying this statement, but that would be a waste of time that could be used to discuss improvements, like Waypoint is known for.

Nice edit bro.
I think it should be a shorter range on some playlists but I think others should be 25 meters and not just BTB or Warzone.

New radar would make corner camping easier in infection and BTB, if anything. Think about it - in infection, the guy in the corner usually has camo, and you wont know if he’s been in that corner if you cant see him walk to it on the radar. It would be the same for survivors in infection, and hiding for last man in infection is already highly frowned upon currently. In BTB, you wouldn’t have enough time to react to someone patrolling their base, and if they have a shotgun or decide to double melee you, chances are you’re screwed. As for WZ, the radar doesn’t need to be touched there. Doing so would make advanced sensors completely useless.
I could understand the reason for it in playlists like team slayer and FFA, but for social playlists, it seems like it would help the campers more than it would discourage them from camping.
You can still camp in a corner with both radars. I honestly don’t get this logic. If anything, the old radar helps you better if someone is directly behind you or to the side because you’ll see them move.
Ranked should be SA-tracking, campaign and other non-ranked multiplayer should be a 25m default with Halo 4’s level of detail, in my opinion
I won’t disagree but the fact that the map designs, themselves, are so campy and heavily segmented contributes to the problem of guys sitting around corners with shotties and SMG/Storm Rifles… etc.
I mean, I’ll do it too when I find it advantageous… it’s a dirty play but it works. Is it promoting competitive encounters? No… but the game is what it is.
Now the question for 343 is, for H6… how should optimum competitive maps be designed to keep campiness to a minimum? I’m a big fan of “open air” in maps… it’s something that just about all highly regarded Halo maps have done well. 343 can’t eliminate all blind corners, nor should they, but the amount of intricate features in some of these maps, cheap corners/hidden pockets to hide in… leading to cheap kills… not competitive designs at all.
A lot of that campy gameplay isn’t so much attributed to the radar as it is to the map design IMO.
Sidenote: If we had some Lockout/Guardian inspired maps, some symmetric, some asymmetric, with some “open air” middle areas that gave just enough cover or incentives to maybe make risky pushes, with open pathing and (in some cases) relatively open counters… player movement would be tested due to the risk of falling off of the map… we’d have maps well-designed to accommodate Slayer, Hill, CTF, Oddball, etc, that promote skilled movement and highly competitive gameplay. Reduce the effectiveness of camping, promote higher dexterity and skilled gameplay.
The over-segmentation of (most) H5 maps really dumbs down an (otherwise) highly competitive sandbox.

You can but those pre nades wont be as easy when you cant see someone is walking up on you.
What, you mean the radar from the Proving Grounds playlist that couldn’t detect players who were walking?
Hell no. All they need to do is increase the range to 25m, as it was in every Halo game since Halo 2. That’s all they ever needed to do. No need to overcomplicate things.
The Problems as I see them with radar is 1: It can make kills with short ranged weapons feel cheap, 2: It can be used to play ring around the rosies to stay out of line of sight, and 3: It can under the wrong circumstances cause stale mates, particularly if the range is too far, where players are reluctant to engage unless they have the team shot advantage. No radar has it’s disadvantages as well but I was always fairly content with 25m radar as standard and no radar for competitive in older Halos.
One idea I think would be interesting is what if radar can’t see through walls? It could act as effectively a 360 degree peripheral vision motion sensor where the sensor must actually physically have line of sight on a target to see motion. Could even have it so team mates radars are linked and can feed enemy locations to their allies. Think it would be much more interesting than what they have now. Would love an option like this in customs to test out.

That’s why you crouch and always check your corners…

Thats what i hate about the radar the need to crouch everywhere. Its pretty dumb

Either way, I’ve never had a problem with someone that corner camps and throws a grenade… wtf. If you already have the drop on the person, there is no reason for a grenade. Even if a grenade was thrown, you can always thrust away.
