Ability Modification for Future Titles

I had some ideas for altering the gameplay that Halo 5 has established.

  1. Temporarily increase base speed using thruster packs. Possible replacement for Sprint. Unlimited usage, standard for all players, with a 5-second recharge time.

  2. Remove all ammo counters from weapons, and remove the bullet icons from underneath the currently-held weapon display in the HUD. Instead, put an ammo counter for the currently-held weapon directly onto the HUD.

  3. “Power Play” Team Slayer game type. Player with the highest score on each team is awarded a power weapon, but also receives reduced health and shields. Teammates must protect the player with the power weapon.

  1. I’ve always been kind of iffy about this idea. I think there’s more intuitive ways to reduce the time it takes players to cross the map, such as bunny hopping. A temporary boost of speed in all directions could have potential for abuse (ex. you just used your boost recently so it’s still recharging, while I use mine and completely outstrafe you as I’m switching to rockets.)

  2. Nah, just seems like a downgrade.

  3. I don’t see the point.

I could not see an up-to-date shooter without sprint, even increasing base speed

I don’t really know what you mean here. It sounds like you want to replace sprint with… sprint without weapon lowering. I’d rather keep sprint.

Instead, put an ammo counter for the currently-held weapon directly onto the HUD. So a CoD/Battlefield ammo display? Why? Let’s keep the weapons the way they’ve been for the past 14 years.

Teammates must protect the player with the power weapon. So VIP gametype with power weapons and reduced health? Alright. I don’t really see it working out in H5:G with the already low kill times though.
